Russian Technology Festival in Port Louis Draws about 400 Participants

The three-day festival Robotics and Innovative Educational Technologies Days came to a close today at the Rajiv Gandhi Science Centre (RGSC). Organized by SODRUZHESTVO Joint Venture LLC with the support of Russian Embassy in Mauritius, Rossotrudnichestvo (Federal Agency for the Commonwealth of Independent States Affairs, Compatriots Living Abroad, and International Humanitarian Cooperation), and our partners — 1T LLC, an IT Company, Saint Petersburg State Marine Technical University, and N. I. Vavilov Saratov State University of Genetics, Biotechnology, and Engineering, the event attracted about 400 participants — schoolchildren and students, their parents, and faculty from the city’s leading schools and universities. Among the guests of honor werе: Irada Zeynalova, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Russian Federation to the Republic of Mauritius; Dr Aman Kumar Maulloo, Director of the Rajiv Gandhi Science Centre; and directors of leading educational institutions in the city.

The festival became a true celebration of technology. Each day, the Science Centre came alive with young people eager to try their hand at building robots, developing games, and competing in gaming tournaments.

Equally important was the career guidance segment of the event. During this session, schoolchildren were able to assess their aptitude for technical careers and, using an interactive map of Russian universities, explore educational opportunities in the fields like robotics, mechatronics, and VR/AR technologies across Russia.

“We’ve seen a strong interest in technical fields here in Mauritius. Many schoolchildren showed not only genuine curiosity but also a solid foundation in these areas. During the career guidance sessions, we provided detailed information about top universities, and received lots of positive feedback,” commented Natalia Shadrina, Deputy Project Director and expert on educational programs at SODRUZHESTVO Joint Venture LLC.

Guests were especially drawn to the Interactive Quiz: Chasing the Tesseract — a thrilling journey through the multiverse, where they got to step into the shoes of technological researchers.

“It was an incredible experience! I realized that technology isn’t just about consuming content — it’s a whole world of creativity and innovation. The experts explained everything in such a clear and engaging way. Now, I’m seriously considering studying in Russia,” shared Yajat Bhandhu, a student from Port Louis.

The Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Russian Federation to the Republic of Mauritius, Irada Zeynalova, thanked all participants of the festival and presented a symbolic gift to the Rajiv Gandhi Science Centre — a painting depicting the national symbol of Mauritius, the dodo bird:

“The original of this painting was presented to Nicholas II and is now kept at the St. Petersburg Institute of Oriental Studies. This is the only image of the dodo, your national symbol, that was painted from a living bird. Thank you very much for the opportunity to take part in this ceremony. I would like to thank everyone who came, and I hope that it was interesting, fruitful, and perhaps inspired you to take further steps towards the future.”

The Director of the Rajiv Gandhi Science Centre, Dr. Aman Kumar Maulloo, thanked the Ambassador for the gift and for the ongoing cooperation:

"Thanks to the support of the Embassy of the Russian Federation and the entire team, these three days were filled with enthusiasm and excitement. People of all ages — from young children to teachers, educators, and parents — found the event engaging. They were introduced to Russian culture, science, technology, VR, and robotics — without any barriers, simply learning through play. This is only the beginning of our cooperation, and we look forward to its continuation."
