It had been a destination

to head towards

on whim’s wings,

the wonderment over aviation

providing the propelling impulse;

they were the days

of simple, propulsive power,

the awesome air- slicing blades

visible from afar;

on the onward trek , views

breathtaking would beguile,

beyond roadside hawkers,

on the flatlands some pyramidal

mounds looking mystical;

the way down proving easy,

easier with expectant ecstasy;

the return upward all the way

was breathlessly hard,

little being noticed,

all worthwhile in the end.

Jeewan Ramlugun

This author, African Development expert and academic has published five collections of poems, with around 1,500 pieces, both locally and internationally, such as “Mother & Memories”, in Mauritius in 2023 and “Hornbeam Dreams”, in Odissa, India, the same year. Several of the poems he has authored have been published in magazines while others have often been read in England, for instance, “Teddington Summer Music” by Paul Alexander, actor, writer and filmmaker, at the Normansfield Theatre in 2016.
