Conseillers à tous vents

Il y a des caméléons qui changent de couleurs et qui arrivent toujours à se caser. Il y a deux cas qui sautent aux yeux. Celui d’un restaurateur dans le Nord qui était un candidat battu du MSM et qui lorgne du côté du ministère du Tourisme pour un poste de conseiller en matière à définir. Il y a aussi cette dame qui était au PMO sous l’ancien régime et qui tente de vendre ses services au nouveau gouvernement, mais au ministère de la Santé on veille au grain pour lui bloquer l’accès.

En vacances

Un rejeté de l’ancien régime entame les derniers jours de ses vacances avant de rentrer dans le confort de sa nouvelle tour au coeur de la capitale. Où on l’attend de pied ferme, d’autant que c'est un monde nouveau pour ce converti, qui a tout fait pour attirer l’attention du nouveau gouvernement.

Chasseurs de tête

Certains qui n’ont pas été au pouvoir pendant longtemps sont à la recherche des postes qu'ils pourront remplir eux-mêmes ou pour les proches des partis de l’alliance gouvernementale. Une liste a même été dressée dans les arcanes du pouvoir, mais cette liste est contestée par plus d'un professionnel – (voir ci-dessous).

“Not a political appointee”

Dear Director of Publications, I refer to your article captioned “Ces nominés politiques toujours en poste” dated 4th December 2024 where-in I have been categorised as a political nominee still in office at the State Bank of Mauritius (“SBM”).

I would be immensely grateful if you could publish this “Mise au Point” as your article of the 4th December 2024 is false and misleading and is causing me great prejudice.

I am a Fellow Chartered Accountant (FCA) from the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales, a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA), and hold a B.Sc (Econ) from the London School of Economics and Political Science, University of London.

I am a seasoned banker having worked in prestigious international banking institutions in Mauritius, Singapore, and Japan. Of note, I have been the Chief Financial Officer and Executive Director of Standard Chartered Bank (Mauritius) Ltd, a Director in the Finance department of Standard Chartered Bank Singapore and Vice-President at Barclays Capital Singapore and Deutsche Securities Inc. in Japan.

After a long and successful career abroad and for family reasons, I opted to return to Mauritius. I am completely disconnected with the Mauritian political scenery.

As regard the position held at SBM, I state that I have followed due process and that there was no political connection in my appointment. In that regard, I replied to an advertisement by SBM in October 2018 wherein SBM was looking for a Chief Financial Officer.

Following a panel interview with the senior management of SBM, and in June 2019, after more than 6 months, I was ultimately offered the position of Head of Finance, which I accepted.

I fail to see, in this whole process, where this political hand crept in to turn me into a political appointee at the SBM.

I am a fully qualified and experienced international banker, and I strongly believe that having an independent and objective media can have an impactful role in encouraging other brothers and sisters of the diaspora take this big leap of returning to Mauritius.
