One more tragedy… this time in Roches-Brunes. The body of a 18-year old girl, Vanessa Pouronne, was found in a sugarcane field last week. The autopsy by forensic scientist, Dr Abdool Khalick Mohungoo, revealed that she died from strangulation after being raped. The victim’s partner, Jean Jude Carmessur, was arrested by the Major Crime Investigation Team (MCIT) a day after the discovery of the body.

A woman was out jogging when she saw the half-naked body of Vanessa Pouronne. As soon as the police arrived, they found a condom and a syringe containing a substance suspected to be an illegal drug next to her body.

Soon after the body was discovered, the police questioned Vanessa’s partner, a 22 year-old man with whom she had been living for three years. Though Jean Jude Carmessur admits he was with her on Monday afternoon, he asserts he doesn’t know what happened to her after that until the discovery on Tuesday.

But the police do not look fully satisfied with his version. Moreover, the MCIT and the Western Criminal Investigation Division are looking for a second suspect. Vanessa Pouronne was quite well known in the region. The police think she might have been involved in a prostitution network.
