When the fashion Gods speak : “The Devil wears Prada”
Adapted from Lauren Weisberger’s best-selling novel “The Devil wears Prada,” the eponymous movie, which opened nation-wide recently, brings Hollywood into the throngs of elitist fashion. The fictional Runway Magazine is the “holy grail” of fashion and Anne Hathaway’s character Andy – a fashion faux paux in herself - lands a “job that millions of girls would die to have” as Miranda Priestly’s (played by Meryl Streep) assistant. The drama ensues in the film with tons of fashion ups and downs, emotional and physical tryst and a few notable moral battles. Thankfully, the red carpet ride was less strenuous. “I knew the Valentino dress was the one to wear when all my friends went ‘awwww’,” said Hathaway, who looked stunning in a beautifully draped red Valentino dress. Also making rounds on the red carpet was Tracie Thoms, known for her ass-kicking vocals in the Broadway and film adaptation of Rent, who lit up the red carpet in sparkly Marc Jacobs shoes and a lovely gold Prada purse, a cute play on the film’s title. Thoms, who plays Hathaway’s pre-fashionista friend Lily, said she felt right at home among the high-end fashions. “I love Gucci, Prada, Valentino and Kors,” said Thoms. “But I never thought I’d be in a position to actually wear them!”.
