<B>Head of business promotion at English Estates</B>
<B>What is the project Mauritius Film City about? </B>
It is a complex with all film-making facilities. People tend to think that it will be for Indian movies. But it is not the case. In fact, this studio will be set up for all types of movies, even European movies.
<B>How did the idea of setting up this project come about? </B>
The idea originated from a partnership between English Estates and Film Inc Uk. Things have gone really fast. Real discussions began in November. In January, we got encouraging signs from the Board of Investment to start the project. Furthermore we we received assurance that several ministers would help us. For example, Rajesh Jeetah, Burty David, Rama Valayden and Rama Sithanen have ensured us their support.
<B>Why did Film Inc Uk decide to implant itself in Mauritius despite the fact that geographically Mauritius is far away? </B>
This is because they were really encouraged by English Estates. We explained to them that the island is full of beautiful scenery and has a variety of sites suitable for shooting movies.
<B>What is your role within the Mauritius Film Society project? </B>
I am responsible for business promotion and marketing at English Estates. Moreover, I am coordinator in the partnership between Film Inc Uk and English Estates. I have been doing this job since January.
<B>Can such a project have a positive impact on our society? </B>
First of all, it will help in the creation of jobs. Indeed, we are planning to recruit between 300 and 500 employees in the beginning. We expect to finish with some 10 000 jobs within two years. Then, it can help to give a good image of the island, as it will attract film producers from all parts of the world.
<B>Are you confident the project will get started soon? </B>
So far, things have gone really well. We have had very positive responses from stakeholders. If things go on this way, we won?t have to wait long before the project becomes reality.
<B>And you are sure it will be a success?</B>
Indeed, I feel sure that it will work. We intend to make it successful on the international level as well.
