Celebrating the International Year of Physics

The United Nations Organization and Unesco have declared 2005 as the International Year of Physics. This scientific event is intended to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the publication of Albert Einstein’s works. Exhibitions, conferences and films are part of the many events in countries all over the world.

In Mauritius, the exhibition “To the horizons of physics” is on at Centre Charles Baudelaire until 23rd July. The 15 posters displayed explain fantastic phenomena like “The history of the universe” (L) or “What is DNA?” (R). It is a very good opportunity for the Mauritian public to understand scientific analysis and appreciate how important it is.

No one thinks about it when walking down the street but science is ever-present in our daily lives, from the morning when we heat some water to make coffee to the evening when we switch off our TV sets to go to bed.

The exhibition is a good way of discovering how the universe works, and will maybe encourage us to ask some questions about the future.
