Six homeless people killed in Polish attic blaze
Six homeless people died in a fire in the town of Stargard, western Poland, and two others were injured, the news channel TVN24 reported yesterday. ?The victims were huddled in an attic where a burning staircase had cut off their escape,? fire brigade commander Wojciech Siergiej told the television. The cause of the fire was not immediately clear. The victims were sleeping in the disused attic of a tenement building when the fire began at about 3 a.m., fire brigade spokesman Lech Tomon told Reuters. The injured were a 36-year-old woman who jumped out of the attic window and a 30-year-old man.
