<B>Dev Hurnam: ?Incorrect?</B>

Following the information entitled?Faute professionnelle alléguée? in our issue of the 5th January last, Mr Dev Hurnam, barrister, acting on behalf of one of the incriminated employees of the National Transport Corporation, (NTC) states as follows:

?It is not correct to state that the ?Le chef magasinier passe outre la décision du FC et procède à l?achat de neuf pièces de rechange à Rs 45,000 l?unité, soit un total de Rs 405,000 et provenant d?un autre fournisseur? mesure urgente.? I must stress that the matter relating to the Head of Stores is sub judice. My client was requested by the Head of Engineering to purchase an amount of gearboxes and the purchase was duly approved and the quantity vetted by the Management Tender Quotation Committee at a higher price than the normal tendered price since these items were urgently required and the normal tenderer could not supply them. On their arrival the goods were certified correct by the quality control department. It was only when one unit was being fixed that it was found out that same was not suitable for the bus in question. Your assertion that my client purchased the spares and bypassed the FC is incorrect.

An enquiry was ordered and my client caused the suppliers to be notified of the unsuitability of the units supplied and the suppliers? accounts were accordingly debited in the total sum paid by the NTC so that there has been no loss at all suffered by the NTC.?
