Racing stewards’ report
■ <B>RACE 1 – THE BLACK TULIP CUP</B>
At the start Real Schlep jumped outwards bumping French Lightning which in turn bumped Teddy’s Last causing it to brush On My Oath, thereby becoming unbalanced over a few strides. At the 1400 metres Teddy’s Last raced fiercely off the heels of National Trade. At an inquiry into an incident jockey Venkaya pleaded guilty to a charge under Rule 161 (c) in that passing the 1300 metres he carelessly allowed his mount to shift in taking Masterfax, which was on his inside, onto Real Schlep, resulting in the latter having to be checked. Jockey Venkaya was suspended from riding in races for one race meeting. Near the 600 metres Real Schlep bumped the running rail and near the 450 metres was unbalanced when Masterfax shifted in slightly. Jockey S. Bhundoo was shown the video of the incident, issued with a warning and told to exercise care when shifting ground. Passing the 200 metres Play The Field had to be taken in off the heels of French Lightning in order to obtain a clear run.
Routine urine specimens were taken for analysis from On My Oath prior to the race and from National Trade after the race.
■ RACE 2 – THE PONDICHERY CUP</B>
At the start Palatino stood flat-footed, was slow out, losing about one length. Bang On Time jumped outwards, brushing the outside gate. The Club’s Veterinary Surgeon reported that Princely News bled from both nostrils. In view of this report and, acting under Rule 166 (2) (c), trainer A. Perdrau was told that Princely News has been suspended for one month and will need a veterinary clearance before being allowed to race again.
Routine urine specimens were taken for analysis from Princely News, Lone Star Park and Palatino prior to the race and from Wolfe Tone after the race.
■ <B>RACE 3 – THE DR. FRANCE RIVALLAND CUP</B>
An objection was lodged by jockey S. Rama, rider of Waves of Winter which finished 2nd, against Really Something (M. Neisius) being declared the winner, alleging interference near the 150 metres. After viewing the relevant videos and taking evidence from the riders and trainers concerned, the Stewards were of the opinion that in the final straight Really Something shifted in to the fence taking the rightful running of Waves of Winter which had to be taken out, and so doing lost some ground. Thereafter Waves of Winter made up ground to finish a head from Really Something. Accordingly, the objection was upheld and the placings were altered to read: 1st : Waves of Winter, 2nd : Really Something. At an inquiry into this incident, jockey Neisius was issued with a warning and told to straighten his horses when they shift ground. At the start Cazam was slow out losing about one length. From the 1000 metres Cameron James started racing fiercely and had to be eased off the heels of Winter’s Flame on some occasions. The Club’s Veterinary Surgeon reported that Winter’s Flame was suffering from a knock on the near fore leg and was slightly lame. In view of this report, trainer H. Maigrot was advised that this horse will need a veterinary certificate of soundness before being allowed to race again. At an inquiry into the riding of Icelandic, jockey Whitmore was found guilty under Rule 158 (2) in that from the 450 metres, he made no attempt to improve his horse’s position when able to do so, which would have been in keeping with his trainer’s instructions, and furthermore, upon entering the final straight he failed to take his horse into a gap in front of him, thus failing to take all reasonable and permissible measures on any part/s of the race to ensure that his horse be given full opportunity to win or obtain the best possible place in the field. Jockey Whitmore was suspended from riding in races for two months.
Routine urine specimens were taken for analysis from Seeking The Gold prior to the race and from Waves of Winter after the race.
■ RACE 4 – THE EUGENE ROUSSET CUP</B>
Light Scuffle, which was unruly in its stall, stood flat-footed and was slow out and shortly after the start was inconvenienced by Heliotrope which had jumped inwards. From passing the 300 metres until entering the final straight Dandy Rouge was held up for a run behind Light Scuffle and, upon entering the final straight, was taken in off the heels of Flavius in order to obtain a clear run.
Routine urine specimens were taken for analysis from Oisin Breeze prior to and after the race.
■ <B> RACE 5 –THE BLACK EAGLE CLASSIC CUP</B>
An objection was lodged by jockey M. Neisius, rider of Jumpin Joshua which finished 2nd, against Made of Money (C. Orffer), being declared the winner, alleging that his horse had been bumped by Made of Money on two occasions. After viewing the relevant videos and taking evidence from the riders and trainers concerned, the Stewards were of the opinion that when the horses came together on the first occasion Jumpin Joshua had contributed by shifting out slightly, and on the second occasion Made of Money had brushed Jumpin Joshua near the 100 metres, and then drew away from it over the last 100 metres. Accordingly the objection was dismissed. Passing the 1300 metres, Tabascorez (Woodworth) was inconvenienced and had to be steadied when Made Of Money (Orffer) shifted in. At an inquiry into this incident, jockey Orffer was issued with a warning and told to exercise care when shifting ground. At an inquiry into an incident, jockey Woodworth (Tabascorez) was found guilty of a charge under Rule 161 (c) in that near the 1200 metres he carelessly allowed his mount to shift in, resulting in Ubusuku on his inside being cramped for room and having to be checked. He was fined Rs 40,000. At the start Cavendish and Clifton King were slow out, both losing about one length. From the 350 metres Clifton King was taken out for a run and raced wide from there onwards.
Routine urine specimens were taken for analysis from Chief Warrior and Cavendish prior to the race and from Made of Money after the race.
■ RACE 6 – THE PIERRE HUGNIN CUP</B>
At the start Bold Plum was slow out, losing about one length. April Boy jumped outwards, brushing Horn Beam and Ashton Manor jumped inwards brushing Cash On Delivery. Salute The Star jumped with its head in the air. Long John Silver was slow into stride. Jockey Emamdee (Ashton Manor) reported that his mount hung out throughout the race. A subsequent veterinary examination of the horse revealed no abnormality. When questioned about the poor performance of Cash On Delivery, trainer S. Ramdin explained that this horse had worked well in the build up to the race and that they were confident of a good run from it but, as it turned out, it did not quicken when required to do so. After the race, an endoscopic examination of Cash On Delivery revealed traces of blood in its trachea. In view of this, trainer S. Ramdin advised the Stewards that this horse will be treated accordingly for his future races.
Routine urine specimens were taken for analysis from Cash On Delivery and Leatherman prior to the race and from Horn Beam after the race.
■ RACE 7 – THE PAUL LANGLOIS CUP</B>
An objection was lodged by jockey S. Rama, rider of Stormy Front which finished 2nd, against Borzov (B. Woodworth) being declared the winner, alleging interference near the 100 metres. After viewing the relevant videos and taking evidence from the riders and trainers concerned, the Stewards were of the opinion that in the final straight Borzov shifted in to the fence taking the rightful running of Stormy Front which had to be taken out and so doing lost some ground. However, thereafter Borzov drew away from Stormy Front over the last 100 metres. Accordingly, the objection was dismissed. At an inquiry into this incident, jockey Woodworth (Borzov) was issued with a warning and told to straighten his mounts when they shift ground. At the start Catullus jumped inwards, brushing Stormy Front and unbalancing the latter. Superagente jumped outwards, bumping Express Mail onto Kings Arms, resulting in the latter being unbalanced and Express Mail becoming cramped for room and having to be checked. At an inquiry into an incident, jockey Neisius (Paranui) pleaded guilty to a charge under Rule 161 (c) in that approaching the 1200 metres, he carelessly allowed his mount to shift in resulting in Orace Barfoot having to be checked. Jockey Neisius was fined Rs 10,000. Passing the 1300 metres Pardon A Prince, which was racing fiercely, had to be eased off the heels of Kings Arms throwing its head up over some distance. Kings Arms raced wide on the first turn. Rob-N-Bob raced wide throughout and Express Mail raced wide on the final turn. Approaching the 100 metres Catullus shifted in under pressure, brushing Orace Barfoot. Jockey Boutanive was shown the video of the incident and advised to straighten his mounts when they shift ground. Over the concluding stages, Express Mail hung in under pressure and slightly brushed Rob N Bob.
Routine urine specimens were taken for analysis from Catullus, Stormy Front, Express Mail and Sun Blast prior to the race and from Borzov after the race.
■ <B>RACE 8 – THE WALLIS MCCLOUD PLATE</B>
At the start Judgement Call and Jazz King were slow out, both losing about one length. At an inquiry into an incident, jockey Venkaya (Marrakesh) was found guilty of a charge under Rule 161 (c) in that near the 1200 metres, he carelessly allowed his mount to shift in resulting in Barrister (Woodworth) and Match The Market (Joorawon), on his inside, becoming cramped for room and having to be checked. Jockey Venkaya was suspended from riding in races for one race meeting. Blushing Moon raced wide on the first turn and from the 900 metres raced fiercely off the heels of Golden Millenium, proving very difficult to control, Intrusion which was following, was inconvenienced and taken out. At an inquiry into an incident, jockey Venkaya (Marrakesh) was found guilty of a charge under Rule 161 (c) in that approaching the 300 metres, he took his horse in, resulting in Match The Market (Joorawon), on his inside, having to be checked. Judgement Call (Bundhoo) which was following, was inconvenienced, had to be eased and Jazz king (Brown) was also inconvenienced and had to be taken out off the heels of Judgement Call. Jockey Venkaya was suspended from riding in races for two race meetings. This suspension is to be served concurrently with the one given to him for the incident near the 1200 metres of the same race. Intrusion and Golden Millenium raced wide on the final turn.
Routine urine specimens were taken for analysis from Jazz King and Destination prior to the race and from Barrister after the race.
