Racing stewards’ report
■ <B>RACE 1 – THE COMMONWEALTH CUP</B>
The start was delayed when Rambo Fire forced its stall open and had to be re-loaded. At the start Rambo Fire and On My Oath were slow out, both losing about one length. At the start Khedive jumped outwards and Link-Up jumped inwards, resulting in National Trade being cramped for room. Rambo Fire and On My Oath were slow out both losing about one length. Spinning Honor jumped inwards resulting in Rambo Fire being inconvenienced shortly after the start. From the 1200 metres National Trade raced fiercely off the heels of Khedive and threw its head up when being settled. Approaching the 100 metres Link-Up shifted out under pressure and Blushing Moon shifted in, resulting in both horses brushing. Blushing Moon had a tendency to hang in in the final straight and proved difficult to be properly assisted. Jockey Daby was questioned as to why he kept urging his mount over the first 350 metres. He explained that since he thought that Blushing Moon would come in front of him and start racing fiercely as it usually does, he assisted his mount so as to prevent Blushing Moon from coming in. His explanations were noted. Jockey Emamdee reported that Rodin dropped the bit from the 600 metres and failed to quicken in the final straight. A subsequent veterinary examination of the horse revealed no abnormality.
Routine urine specimens were taken for analysis from Spinning Honor and On My Oath prior to the race and from Blushing Moon after the race.
■ <B>RACE 2 – THE DR. FRANCE RIVALLAND CUP</B>
An objection was lodged by jockey Hill, rider of Almahab, which finished 3rd, against In A Heart Beat, being declared the winner, alleging interference near the 100 metres. After taking evidence from the riders and trainers concerned and viewing the relevant videos, the objection was dismissed. At the start, Dane’s Castle jumped outwards, slightly inconveniencing Gunga Din on its outside and carrying it wide. As the gates opened, Gdansk reared, losing many lengths. In view of this, Acting Trainer M. Gujadhur was told that this horse would need to pass a barrier trial to the satisfaction of the Stewards before being allowed to race again. At an inquiry into an incident, jockey Boutanive (In A Heart Beat) pleaded guilty to a charge under Rule 161 (c) in that approaching the 100 metres he carelessly allowed his mount to shift in, resulting in Ashton Manor having to be taken in and Almahab, which was following, having to be taken out for a clear run. He was fined Rs10,000. Gdansk raced wide from the 500 metres.

■ RACE 3 – THE MIRABEAU CUP</B>
At the start, Iwe Spiwe was slow out losing about one length and Leatherman jumped outwards and Frondeur jumped inwards, resulting in Rambo Rouge being cramped for room. Frondeur raced fiercely from the 1200 metres to the 800 metres, throwing its head up from time to time when being settled. In the final straight Iwe Spiwe shifted out away from the whip and had to be straightened. When questioned as to the performance of Rambo Rouge, jockey Herholdt stated that he asked for an effort of his horse earlier than he had anticipated, however it did not respond to his urgings. He added that he was slightly disappointed with the horse’s performance and he thought that the soft going might have adversely affected the running of the horse.
Routine urine specimens were taken for analysis from Frondeur, Match The Market and Leatherman prior to the race and from Iwe Spiwe after the race.
■ RACE 4 – THE CITY OF PORT LOUIS CUP</B>
At the start, Moyenne and Swiss Avalanche were slow out, both losing about one length. Jockey Bundhoo (Moyenne) reported that his horse stumbled at the 1200 metres and was not striding well from thereon. A veterinary examination of the horse revealed that it was lame on the off hind leg. In view of this, Acting Trainer M. Gujadhur was told that this horse will need a veterinary certificate of fitness before being allowed to race again. From the 1200 metres, when the pace slowed, Winter’s Flame started racing fiercely, throwing its head up when being settled off the heels of Super-C. Passing the 400 metres, Swiss Avalanche, which had a tendency to hang out, was slightly inconvenienced when brushed by Telaroyal when the latter was taken out for a clear run. Jockey Whitmore was shown the video of the incident and told to exercise care when shifting ground. Jockey Hill (Brooke’s Express) was questioned as to why near the 300 metres he did not urge his mount into a gap which had presented itself. He explained that he did not go into that gap because he was waiting for an opening on the inside as the horse has a tendency to hang in and to comply with the instructions given by his trainer in the presence of the Racing Stewards. He added that unfortunately Winter’s Flame, which was in front of it, did not improve its position, so he had to make a move on that horse’s outside earlier than he had anticipated. From approaching the 100 metres, Telaroyal hung in under pressure and proved difficult to be properly assisted. Orace Barfoot hung out away from the whip over the final 100 metres.
Routine urine specimens were taken for analysis from Winter’s Flame prior to the race and from Orace Barfoot after the race.
■ RACE 5 – THE ANGLO-MAURITIUS ASSURANCE GOLDEN JUBILEE CUP</B>
At the start Flavius reared badly, was slow out, losing 2-3 lengths. In view of this, Trainer S. Henry was told that this horse would need to pass a barrier trial to the satisfaction of the Stewards before being allowed to race again. Passing the 900 metres, when the pace slowed, Brandy-Pawnee started racing fiercely and had to be eased off the heels of Cherry Bite. Near the 300 metres, Cavendish which had a tendency to shift in was taken out off the heels of Swartland. Over the final 100 metres Swartland shifted out under pressure resulting in Brandy-Pawnee, on its outside, being slightly inconvenienced and having to be taken out. Jockey Jeanpierre was shown the video of the incident and told to straighten his mounts when they shift ground.
Routine urine specimens were taken for analysis from Flavius prior to the race and from Cavendish prior to and after the race.
■ RACE 6 – THE LOUIS LARCHER CUP</B>
Passing the 1200 metres, Joshua Day, which was racing fiercely, shifted out when being settled off the heels of Methodical Man and from the 900 metres started racing very fiercely and raced its way to the lead. Passing the 300 metres, Methodical Man shifted in, resulting in War Council being slightly cramped for room. Jockey Jago was shown the video of the incident and told to allow more room to horses on his inside. Upon entering the final straight, Methodical Man had to be taken out off the heels of Joshua Day in order to obtain a clear run.

■ RACE 7 – PRIX DU CONSEIL MUNICIPAL</B>
At the start Fort Danzig was slow out and Old Trafford jumped with its head up, both horses losing about one length. Arabian Scent jumped most of the crossings. National Manner raced wide from the 500 metres when taken out for a clear run and Tabascorez raced wide from the 400 metres. Over the concluding stages, Forest Flag shifted out away from the whip.
Routine urine specimens were taken for analysis from Fort Danzig, Just Wonder and Old Trafford prior to the race and from Forest Flag prior to and after the race.
■ <B>RACE 8 – THE EDOUARD DESBLEDS PLATE </B>
At the start Spirit jumped with its head up was slow out losing about one length. Shortly after the start, Superviviente stumbled badly, resulting in jockey Boutanive being nearly dislodged and shortly after Going Down stumbled, unbalancing jockey Joorawon over one stride. Shortly after the start, Personal Choice started racing fiercely and approaching the 1600 metres threw its head up when settled off the heels of Going Down. Passing the 300 metre-marker on the first occasion, Going Down and Personal Choice were slightly cramped for room when Cedar Falls shifted in slightly. Jockey Herholdt was shown the video of the incident and told to exercise care when shifting ground. The Club’s Veterinary Surgeon reported that French Lightning was suffering from a cut to its near fore leg. In view of this, trainer V. Allet was told that this horse will need a veterinary certificate of fitness before being allowed to race again.
