■ RACE 1 ? THE ZILLAH CUP

At the start Palatino was slow out, losing about one length. Cut?Em Up was slow into stride. Passing the 1300 metres, Precision bumped St Nicholas. At an inquiry into an incident, jockey Boutanive (Precision) pleaded guilty to a charge under Rule 161 (c) in that near the 1250 metres he improperly took his mount in when insufficiently clear of St. Nicholas, thereby jeopardising his own security, the security of fellow riders and horses in that race. Jockey Boutanive was suspended from riding in races for one race meeting and fined Rs 20,000. From the 450 metres Cut?Em Up and Smuggler raced wide when taken out for a run and Bite The Bullet raced wide from the 300 metres. Passing the 300 metres Fleeting Moment was taken out off the heels of Blessed Arabian and was held up for a run behind the latter for some distance. Upon entering the final straight Dougan shifted in slightly and brushed Blessed Arabian and Blessed Arabian (V. Naiko) shifted in slightly inconveniencing St. Nicholas, which was tiring. Jockey Naiko was shown the video of the incident and told to exercise care at all times. Jockey Neisius reported that Dougan raced green throughout the race and jockey Sooful reported that Smuggler hung out from the 600 metres. The Club?s Veterinary Surgeon reported that St. Nicholas was lame and had a cut on the off hind leg and was also distressed after the race. In view of this, trainer Ramapatee Gujadhur was told that this horse will need a veterinary certificate of soundness before being allowed to race again.

Routine urine specimens were taken for analysis from Precision and Spirit prior to the race and from Blessed Arabian after the race.

■ RACE 2 ? THE DUKE OF EDINBURGH CUP

At the start Mr. Millionaire half-reared, losing about one length. From the 400 metres Sugar Prince was taken out for a run and raced wide from thereon. Place On The Bay raced wide throughout. The Club?s Veterinary Surgeon reported that Place On The Bay was lame on the near fore leg. In view of this, trainer R. Maingard was told that this horse will need a veterinary certificate of soundness before being allowed to race again.

Routine urine specimens were taken for analysis from In A Heart Beat, Catullus, Mr. Millionaire and Astrakhan prior to the race and from African Ambassador after the race.

■ RACE 3 ? THE J. PHILIPPE LAGESSE CUP

At the start Weekender and Woden were slow out, both losing about one length. From the 150 metres Make No Mistake shifted in and approaching the winning post Sardonyx on its inside, whilst being ridden along, was taken out. Jockey Hill was shown the video of the incident and told that he is expected to straighten his mount when it shifts ground. The Stewards inquired into the reason why Arabian Scent did not improve his position on the final turn. Mr. Maingard stated that contrary to its last two runs where the horse had been asked for an effort on the final turn and had faded in the final straight, he today instructed his jockey to wait for the final straight to ask for its initial effort. However, Arabian Scent raced fiercely and still failed to quicken in the final straight. His explanations were noted.

■ RACE 4 ? THE QUEEN ELIZABETH II CORONATION CUP

Near the 1200 metres Command Centre was inconvenienced and had to be steadied when Yankee Bell shifted in. At an inquiry into this incident, jockey Emamdee was issued with a warning and told to exercise care when shifting ground. At an inquiry into an incident, jockey Emamdee (Yankee Bell) pleaded guilty under Rule 161 (c) in that near 1150 metres he carelessly allowed his mount to shift in, resulting in Intsu on his inside having to be checked. Jockey Emamdee was suspended from riding in races for one race meeting.

■ RACE 5 ? THE ANGLO-MAURITIUS ASSURANCE GOLDEN JUBILEE CUP

At the start Swartland half-reared and was slow out and War Council was slow out, both losing about one length. Shortly after entering the final straight Men Of Rheims had to be taken out off the heels of Mister Assembly to obtain a clear run. From the 350 metres, Swartland, when asked for an effort, shifted out slightly and when taken back to the fence slightly inconvenienced Men Of Rheims which was following. Passing the 150 metres Elizondo shifted out slightly taking both Harry?s Game and Mister Assembly onto Men Of Rheims which was shifting in, slightly brushing Mister Assembly. From then on Men Of Rheims continued shifting in and over the last 50 metres could not be assisted properly. The Club?s Veterinary Surgeon reported that Splendid Man was slightly lame on the off hind leg. In view of this, trainer Budheswar Gujadhur was told that this horse will need a veterinary certificate of soundness before being allowed to race again.

Routine urine specimens were taken for analysis from Gold Bid, Elizondo, Romanelli and Harry?s Game prior to the race and from Men Of Rheims prior to and after the race.

■ RACE 6 ? THE RENE LINCOLN CUP

An objection was lodged by jockey S. Rama, rider of Slivovitz which finished fourth, against Mainsail, which finished third, alleging interference near the 150 metres. After taking evidence from the riders and trainers concerned and viewing the available videos, the Stewards were of the opinion that near the 150 metres jockey Rama had to ease his mount and take it out off the heels of Mainsail and made up ground afterwards to finish a neck from Mainsail, therefore the objection was upheld and the placings altered to read: 3rd: Silvovitz and 4th: Mainsail. At the start, Slivovitz threw its head up, was slow out losing about one length. Grand Duke jumped inwards brushing Mainsail. At an inquiry into an incident, jockey Woodworth (Mainsail) pleaded guilty to a charge under Rule 161 (c) in that near the 150 metres he carelessly allowed his mount to shift in, resulting in Silvovitz, which was racing on his inside, having to be eased and taken out. Jockey Woodworth was fined Rs 20,000. An inquiry was held into the tactics employed by jockey Mahadia (Press Line). After the jockey and trainer Budheswar Gujadhur had been heard, jockey Mahadia was charged under rule 53 (A) (c) for failing to follow his trainer?s instructions. However, after having verified the transcript of the inquiry held on Saturday, the Racing Stewards came to the conclusion that a statement made by Mr. Gujadhur pertaining to instructions was ambiguous. Consequently, the Racing Stewards decided to drop the charge.

■ RACE 7 ? THE L. EDGARD ADOLPHE OBE CUP

Jockey Emamdee, who was suffering from his elbow and was stood down by the Club?s Doctor, was replaced on Royal Dome by jockey R. Joorawon. At the start Royal Dome threw its head up, was slow out, losing about one length. Jockey Rama was questioned as to why near the 1100 metres he allowed Jazz King to take up a position on the rails in front of him. He explained that his mount, which had dropped the bit, shied away from Jazz King, brushed the running rail and when he urged it forward to bridge the gap, the latter failed to respond to his urgings. His explanations were accepted. Supreme Mission raced wide on the first turn. At an inquiry into an incident, jockey Woodworth (Barrister) pleaded guilty to a charge under Rule 161 (c) in that near the 300 metres he carelessly allowed his mount to shift out, resulting in Supreme Mission, which was racing on his outside, being inconvenienced over some distance. Jockey Woodworth was fined Rs 10,000. From the 150 metres Eli?s Romance and Barrister shifted in under pressure and near the 75 metres Eli?s Romance when being straightened brushed Barrister and was turned sideways over one stride.

■ RACE 8 ? THE DERBY O?GILL PLATE

Jockey S. Rama replaced jockey Y. Emamdee on Real Caliz. When questioned about the running and riding of National Trust, trainer Allet stated that he instructed his jockey to race handy and save his mount since the horse was carrying two kilos more and racing over a longer journey than at its previous outing. Jockey Woodworth was asked why he did not take his horse out from near the 600 metres as he had done at its last outing so as not to be boxed in. He explained that at its last outing, approaching the 600 metres, he could see Spirit which was racing directly in front of him starting to slow down, so he elected to take his mount to the outside of Spirit. However, on this occasion, Link-Up was racing well ahead of him and he was of the opinion that the latter was going well enough to carry him into the final straight, hence decided not to move out. Jockey Woodworth was told that although the Stewards were not taking the matter further, he was expected to show better judgement in future.
