At the start Got The Pace and Game Lodge were slow out, both losing about one length. Approaching the 1700 metres, in a general crowding, Rivers Of Babylon was cramped for room, had to be eased and was taken to the fence. Passing the 900 metres Soul Power shifted in and brushed the rails. Approaching the 300 metres jockey Bhaugeerothee (Soul Power), when attempting a run into a very narrow gap on the inside of Bootes, had to be checked when the gap closed. Jockey Bhaugeerothee was shown the video of the incident and told that in future he should take all necessary precautions to abide by safety norms before attempting a run into a narrow gap. At an inquiry, jockey Venkaya (Chirac) pleaded guilty to a charge under Rule 158 (f) in that he did not ride his mount out to the finish, which may have deprived it of the third place. Jockey Venkaya was fined Rs.10,000.

■ RACE 2 ? THE MUNICIPALITY OF PORT LOUIS 125TH ANNIVERSARY CUP

At the start In Her Honour jumped awkwardly, losing about one length. Gold Guild jumped outwards, brushing Supreme Mission. At an inquiry into an incident, jockey Herholdt (Gold Guild) was found guilty of a charge under Rule 161 (b) in that from the 1100 to the 900 metres he over-restrained his mount causing a bunching and resulting in In Her Honour and Supreme Mission having to be checked over some distance. Jockey Herholdt was fined Rs.10,000. At an inquiry into an incident, jockey Woodworth (Cross Patch) was charged under Rule 161 (b) for over-restraining his mount from 1100 to the 900 metres, causing Major League to be checked near the 1000 metres. However, after hearing further evidence from jockey Orffer and watching a different video, the Stewards decided not to proceed further. It was established that a gap closed between Gold Guild and Cross Patch, resulting in Major League having to be taken out, bumping Vigliodor. Passing the 1200 metres, when being straightened, Gold Guild shifted out, carrying Cross Patch, on its outside, wider. Vigliodor raced wide on the first turn. Upon entering the final straight, Gold Guild shifted out under pressure taking Cross Patch and Major League wide. Near the 200 metres Jockey Hatt?s (Supreme Mission) whip got entangled in his reins over a short distance. At an inquiry into the riding of Vigliodor, jockey Rama was found guilty of a charge under Rule 161 (f) in that in the final straight he failed, without good cause, to ride his mount with sufficient vigour, thereby not riding to the satisfaction of the Stewards. Jockey Rama was fined Rs.20,000. The Club?s Veterinary Surgeon reported that Legionnaire was short on both fore legs. In view of this, trainer Rameshwar Gujadhur was told that this horse will need a veterinary certificate of soundness before being allowed to race again.

■ RACE 3 ? THE ACKBAR GUJADHUR CUP

At the start Promise Keeper jumped inwards, brushing Imperial Domain and Born Leader half-reared, was slow out losing about one length. Shortly after the start, Promise Keeper carried on shifting inwards, bumping Pipeline. Aquavit, which was unruly in its gate, jumped with its head up over a short distance and raced wide until the 1100 metres. Near the 1300 metres Imperial Domain shied from the winning post and became unbalanced. At an inquiry into an incident, jockey Herholdt (Cedar Falls) pleaded guilty to a charge under Rule 161 (c) in that approaching the 1000 metres he carelessly allowed his mount to shift in, resulting in Pipeline on his inside being taken in onto Looks To Kill, resulting in the latter having to be checked. When assessing penalty, the Stewards took into consideration that jockey Herholdt had been fined Rs.20,000 the previous meeting, he was therefore fined Rs.30,000.

■ RACE 4 ? THE NORBERT POUPARD CUP

At the start, Kilto jumped outwards onto Stormy Boy, which then shifted out slightly and Rambo Royale, on its outside, was slightly inconvenienced and had to be eased. Monomotapa stumbled shortly after the start. At an inquiry into the riding of Blackwatch, jockey Herholdt was found guilty under Rule 161 (f) in that passing the 1300 metres he, without good cause, prematurely urged his mount forward uphill to go into the lead. Jockey Herholdt was suspended from riding in races for one race meeting and fined Rs.20,000. At an inquiry into an incident, jockey Herholdt (Blackwatch) was found guilty of a charge under Rule 161 (c) in that passing the 700 metres he carelessly allowed his mount to shift out, resulting in Monomotapa on his outside being inconvenienced over a short distance. Jockey Herholdt was fined Rs.10,000.

■ RACE 5 ? THE LADBROKES AFRICA CUP

At the start Swartland and Mister Assembly were slow out, both losing about one length. Passing the 1000 metres Sterling Silver, which was racing fiercely, was taken out off the heels of Royal Harvest. From the 900 metres, African Ambassador had a tendency to hang out and proved difficult to control rounding the home turn. Passing the 100 metres, Swartland was accidentally hit over the head and shifted in abruptly, unbalancing its jockey. At an inquiry into the riding of Gold Bid, jockey Joorawon was found guilty of a charge under Rule 161 (f) in that he failed, without good cause, to ride his mount with sufficient vigour for most of the final straight. Jockey Joorawon was suspended from riding in races for three race meetings and fined Rs.25,000. Shortly after the start, Gold Bid stumbled and after a short distance shifted in, resulting in Royal Harvest being cramped for room and having to be eased. Jockey Joorawon was shown the video of the incident and advised to allow room to horses on his inside.

■ RACE 7 ? THE MUNICIPALITY OF PORT LOUIS CENTENARY CUP

Jockey Joorawon was stood down by the Club?s Doctor and was replaced on Leatherman by jockey S. Jones. When parading behind the stalls, Shuttlecock reared, dislodging jockey Boutanive. It was examined by the Club?s Veterinary Surgeon and passed fit to race and as the gates opened Shuttlecock reared, dislodging its jockey and took no part in the race. Acting under Rule 144 (1) Shuttlecock was declared a non-starter. In view of this, all bets on this horse were ordered to be refunded and no deductions were made on the winning bets with bookmakers, the average price of Shuttlecock being 49-1 at the start of the race. At an inquiry into two incidents, jockey Stewart pleaded guilty to both charges under 161 (c) in that firstly shortly, after the start he carelessly allowed his mount to shift in, resulting in What Price having to be checked. He was fined Rs.20,000. Secondly, further when approaching the 1200 metres he carelessly allowed his mount to shift in, resulting in Royal Dome having to be eased over some distance. Jockey Stewart was fined Rs.10,000. At an inquiry into an incident, jockey Jones (Leatherman) pleaded guilty to a charge under Rule 161 (c) in that approaching the 1100 metres he carelessly allowed his mount to shift in, resulting in Space Centre having to be eased and taken out. Jockey Jones was fined Rs.10,000. At an inquiry into an incident, jockey Rama (Space Centre) pleaded guilty to a charge under Rule 161 (c) in that approaching the 1000 metres he carelessly allowed his mount to shift in, resulting in Galveston having to be checked. Jockey Rama was fined Rs.10,000. Ice Flow and Cameron James raced wide throughout. Trainer C. Ramdin was told that Shuttlecock will need barrier trials to the satisfaction of the Stewards before being allowed to race again.

■ RACE 8 ? THE PORT AU PRINCE CUP

As the gates opened Tincture reared. Acting under Rule 144 (1) Tincture was declared a non-starter. In view of this, all bets on this horse were ordered to be refunded and the winning bets with bookmakers were paid less 5 cents per rupee, the average price of Tincture being 19-1 at the start of the race. Trainer Ramapatee Gujadhur was told that Tincture will need barrier trials to the satisfaction of the Stewards before being allowed to race again. At the start, Destination was slow out losing about one length. Shortly after the start, Special K shifted in abruptly and had to be straightened. Shortly after the start Blessed Arabian had to be steadied and taken in when Burn The Bridge shifted in. Jockey Daby was shown the video of the incident and advised to show care when shifting ground. Passing the 1000 metres, Destination, when being settled off the heels of Real Caliz threw its head up over some distance. Tincture, which was following, was slightly inconvenienced. Near the 500 metres, Blessed Arabian was taken out for a run and raced wide rounding the home turn. From the 300 metres, Guzerat was unable to improve its position and shortly before entering the final straight, was momentarily steadied off the heels of Cut ?Em Up. Approaching the winning post, Cut ?Em Up had to be eased when Real Caliz shifted in. Jockeys Stewart and Sooful were shown the video of the incident and advised to exercise care when shifting ground.
