■ <B> RACE 1 – THE CASEY’S FLIGHT CUP</B>

At the start Keep Your Distance, which was unruly in its stall, half-reared, Spirit threw its head up and Let Loose jumped outwards, brushing Keep Your Distance, all being slow out and losing about one length. From the 1200 metres Music Master started racing fiercely when being settled, throwing its head up on a number of occasions and, passing the 900 metres, was taken out to avoid clipping the heels of Mythical Man. At an inquiry into an incident, jockey Boutanive (Super Edge) pleaded guilty to a charge under Rule 161 (c) in that passing the 1000 metres, he carelessly allowed his mount to shift in, resulting in Let Loose, on his inside, having to be checked. Jockey Boutanive was fined Rs.20,000. At an inquiry into an incident, apprentice Bhaugeerauthee (Captain) pleaded guilty to a charge under Rule 161 (c) in that approaching the 400 metres he carelessly allowed his mount to shift in, resulting in Let Loose, racing on his inside, having to be checked. Apprentice Bhaugeerauthee was suspended from racing in the next race reserved for Mauritian riders. Near the 300 metres Captain brushed the running rail. In the final straight, Music Master, which had a tendency to hang in, shifted in, brushing Free Offer near the 100 metres and again near the winning post. Jockey Venkaya reported that near the 100 metres Intrusion was tiring and changed legs and as he thought there might be something amiss with the horse, he did not persevere with the latter. A subsequent veterinary examination of Intrusion revealed no abnormality. Jockey Daby (Keep Your Distance) reported that his mount was not striding out properly in the final straight. A subsequent veterinary examination of this horse revealed that Keep Your Distance was trotting short on both fore legs. Trainer H. Maigrot was told that this horse will need a veterinary certificate of soundness before being allowed to race again.

Routine urine specimens were taken for analysis from Tickle My Cluster, Super Edge, Fleeting Moment, Music Master and Captain prior to the race and from Free Offer prior to and after the race.

■ <B>RACE 2 – THE PRODIGAL CUP</B>

The start was delayed when Pipeline refused to be loaded. It was consequently withdrawn from the race. In view of this, all bets on Pipeline were ordered to be refunded and winning bets with bookmakers were paid less 5 cents per rupee, the average price of Pipeline being 12/1 at the time of withdrawal. Trainer R. Gujadhur was told that Pipeline will have to pass a barrier trial to the satisfaction of the Stewards before being allowed to race again. At the start African Ambassador jumped outwards, brushing Catullus. Burn The Bridge, which had its head up in its stall, was slow out losing about one length. African Ambassador jumped the crossing at the 1250 metres. Passing the 1200 metres, Brassy Badger was taken in and Cut ‘Em Up on its inside was inconvenienced. Jockey Emamdee (Brassy Badger) was shown the video of the incident and advised to exercise care before shifting ground. Approaching the 900 metres, when the pace slowed, African Ambassador raced fiercely, had to be taken out off the heels of Cut ‘Em Up and raced wide from thereon. At the 400 metres National Express, which was racing fiercely, had to be eased off the heels of Brassy Badger, brushed the running rail and unbalanced its jockey causing him to lose his off side stirrup momentarily. Jockey Jupp (Cut ‘Em Up) reported that his mount raced greenly, was difficult to settle and that his saddle slipped. Jockey Jago (African Ambassador) reported that his mount hung out after the start and proved difficult to settle throughout the race. The Club’s Veterinary Surgeon reported that African Ambassador lost its off fore shoe in running.

Routine urine specimens were taken for analysis from African Ambassador and Brassy Badger prior to the race and from National Express after the race.

■ <B>RACE 3 – THE PACIFIC OCEAN CUP</B>

Promise Keeper reared in its gate prior to the start being given. As in the opinion of the Racing Stewards, the horse was denied a fair start, acting under Rule 144 (1), Promise Keeper was declared a non-starter. In view of this, all bets on this horse were ordered to be refunded and winning bets with bookmakers were paid less 5 cents per rupee, the average price of Promise Keeper being 12/1 at the time of withdrawal. At the start Te Atatu and Royal Dome were slow out, losing about one length. At the 500 metres, Te Atatu which was racing fiercely, was taken out off the heels of Uncle Louis and immediately the pace quickened and Te Atatu was taken back to the fence. As a result, Promise Keeper which had attempted to improve on the inside of Te Atatu had to be eased. Jockey Brown was shown the video of the incident and told to exercise care when shifting ground.

Routine urine specimens were taken for analysis from Chopipe, Alaric, Bang On Time, Greek Flag and Peruzzi prior to the race and from Uncle Louis prior to and after the race.

■ <B>RACE 4 – THE RENE MAIGROT CUP</B>

At the start Kings Arms jumped outwards onto River Siren which in turn shifted outwards, brushing Kaleidoscope. At an inquiry into an incident, Jockey Hill (Glenever) was found guilty of a charge under Rule 161 (c) in that near the 1300 metres, he carelessly allowed his mount to shift in, resulting in five horses on his inside being cramped for room, causing Intsu (F.Herholdt) on his inside to be unbalanced and shifting in. As a result, the three horses on his inside were cramped for room and consequently, The First Russian (S.Jupp) had to be checked and lose its position. Jockey Hill was fined Rs.20,000. Passing the 1200 metres, River Siren shifted in resulting in Kaleidoscope, which was proving difficult to settle, having to be steadied and throwing its head up in the air on some occasions. Passing the 200 metres Glenever shifted out abruptly, taking Intsu and Innkeeper wider, resulting in both horses being inconvenienced. Shortly after, Intsu had to be eased off the heels of Glenever and taken in for a clear run. Kaleidoscope raced wide on the final turn.

<B>RACE 5 – THE SIR RAYMOND HEIN CUP</B>

At the start Clifton King was slow out, losing about one length. Tolstoy jumped outwards and raced wide till the first turn. Jockey Rama was shown the video of the incident and told to keep his horse closer to the fence when in a position to do so. Approaching the 1300 metres Tolstoy shifted out slightly, brushing Light Scuffle. Passing the 100 metres Splendid Man was cramped for room and had to be checked when Tolstoy shifted out, despite jockey Rama’s attempt to straighten it, and Light Scuffle shifted in under pressure.
