CWA cautious despite rains

Thanks to the torrential rains of the past few days, the Central Water Authority (CWA) can relax a little bit. The level of water in our reservoirs has gone up by 10% and the situation of our underground water tables has improved slightly. Even though water cuts might be reduced, the CWA remains very cautious and made it clear that it would not release water completely. The main reservoir, Mare-aux-Vacoas, is still in a very serious situation and it would be irresponsible to behave as if the situation was back to normal.

Allegedly deceived and revengeful

A jealous wife can be dangerous. A 20 year-old woman was allegedly attacked on the instructions of her lover’s wife; the lover was also injured during the alleged attack. Both lovers stated to the police – the man went to the police on the day of the said assault on 15th of January while the woman waited until last week –that they were attacked by the deceived wife’s cousins in a sugar cane field. After being kidnapped, the woman said she was undressed, raped and beaten by the men before the powerless lover who was also beaten. After her statement, she was examined by Dr Sudesh Kumar Gungadin, principal police medical officer, who confirmed she had assault marks on her body.

ADSU arrests four dangerous thieves

The efforts of the Anti-Drug and Smuggling Unit were well worth it. They managed to arrest three men and a woman who had committed a series of thefts with violence during the past few weeks. Walter Laval Jackson Bonne, Goolam Hossen Calcutee, Gilbert Noël Louise and Vassenda Appadoo all confessed they had carried out thefts with violence in Rose-Hill, Quatre-Bornes, Gris-Gris or Péreybère, to mention only a few. The police operation, which started on Tuesday night, was completed on Wednesday when the four were arrested.
