The Major Crime Investigation Team (MCIT) has questioned detainee Eden François in Beau-Bassin prison. The habitual criminal was given away by another inmate, Jugmohunsingh, as having been involved in the rape and murder of 22-year old university student Nadine Dantier in Albion in June 2003. Even though Eden François has said he had nothing to do with the crime – he is adamant he had never seen the young girl – the MCIT is still suspicious. He has been asked to take a DNA test - so that he may be cleared - which he accepted but only in the presence of a private doctor and his lawyer. The MCIT may ask for two tests – one by a specialised institution abroad – to make sure there is no error.

<B>Squatters rehoused</B>

The ministry of Land and Housing wants to take action against squatters. Many areas are being taken over by squatters while they have a high economic potential and should not be touched. A committee has been set up to find a long-term solution for these squatters and has to submit recommendations within two months. Minister Dulull has made it clear that all squatters will be rehoused. Most of them have accepted the deal but there is still a minority that needs to be convinced.
