<B>Amnesia and sexual abuse</B>

A young schoolgirl may have been the victim of her own innocence. She had decided to play truant on that Thursday but was actually trapped by some of her “friends”. After the police found her emerging from of some bushes with two young men – who were also playing truant – they wanted to know what she was doing there in uniform. As they realised her behaviour was weird, they took her and her friends to the station. She revealed that the two boys had given her something to drink and that she didn’t remember anything else after that. Dr Satish Boolell who examined her said there has been sexual interference.

<B>Worrying media commission bill </B>

After the prime minister’s violent attack against the press, the announcement by the attorney general of a media commission bill is not surprising. The committee responsible for making proposals for such a bill has done its job and these proposals should soon be discussed at cabinet level. Although they are only proposals – and could be subject to many changes before the bill is introduced – the document makes it clear that the bill will not cause any “unnecessary interference with freedom of expression”, some proposals could undermine some aspects of the freedom of the press. But the attorney general has promised that the process still has a long way to go before it is implemented and will include discussions with the press… There is still hope that common sense will prevail!

<B>Star Knitwear targets the US</B>

This textile company is ready to take risks in order to prosper… And Star Knitwear has been successful so far. Sunline Ltd, a subsidiary of the group, has managed to double its production within a year. Its objective now is to increase its exports to the United States to reach 20%. “The American market has always represented a challenge for us. On the one hand, American purchasers work in a different way. Many order very large amounts of goods,” explains Dirk Robens, the group executive director. The group believes its strength lies in the fact that it offers quality products and meets deadlines.

<B>Fisherman still missing</B>

For more than one week the Joypaul family has not had any news of Rajesh who went fishing with Ramanand Ramkaund and two French expatriates, Bernard Gorecki and Mark Mingolo. On Sunday 19th March, at about 10 pm, the coastguards received a phone call from Christelle Gorecki who was worried that her husband and his friends had still not come back from fishing. Since then, the coastguards have been searching – in Trou-aux-Biches and the surroundings – for the missing boat but in vain…
