It is all very well to talk of the democratisation of the economy but it must be done in a spirit of conciliation, ensuring that the rules of democracy are in action. The very concept of democratisation of economy is admirable but one or two politicians must be careful that they do not drift into a state of paranoia in trying to support their arguments. Perhaps they need to put their brains in gear before speaking.

The MBC is very selective when broadcasting the news. The politicians in power get prime place and their speeches are clearly audible. Anybody else will see their airtime curtailed to a minimum and naturally their speeches inaudible. If we did not know better, we would think that they all suffer from ?aphasia?. I thought that we are supposed to get a balanced news bulletin and an equitable share of air time for all; perhaps it is a mythical belief on my part.

We are told constantly to tighten our belts, yet the government has spent Rs 86.2 million in various ministerial assignments, top of the pile is the minister of Foreign affairs with 29 missions in 21 months. I wonder how much benefit the country has derived from his numerous trips. May be we should put all ministers of any government on Performance related pay (PRP), then we will get value for money

The lord mayor of Port-Louis is not happy with his petrol allowance. So now he has decided to travel by bus like us mere mortals. Perhaps, as he meanders from the bus stop to his palatial offices, he would take the opportunity to observe at close quarters the pandemonium caused by the ever-increasing number of hawkers as they take over the pavements to sell their wares. A problem now magnified as he nears his second year as lord mayor. Luckily, no member of the public has been prosecuted so far for jay walking considering that the poor pedestrian has no other choice than to negotiate his way on the actual road to get to his destination and, in doing so, put his life at risk.
