Pre-school tots learn their rights
To bring people and, especially children, to reflect on their rights. This is the aim of the ?16 days - 16 rights? campaign, which will be launched this afternoon by the Ombudsperson for Children, Shirin Aumeeruddy-Cziffra, at the municipality of Port-Louis. In this context, an art exhibition on the theme ?Home - Family - School? was officially opened last Friday and will be on all week at the Pre-School Trust Fund Centre in Curepipe.
Shirin Aumeeruddy Cziffra expresses satisfaction that people have really understood the project. Actually, her office has just initiated the project but the children themselves have taken over with the help of their teachers and parents. ?What is great is the fact that we have the impression, when we see the exhibition, that children have really thought about their rights before setting on their projects. In other words, there was a reflection on the matter at their own level.?
Moreover, the Ombudsperson for children congratulated pre-school teachers for the good work they do at their level. ?There is a very high level of involvement in pre-schools. What is deplorable is the fact that there is no such involvement in primary schools,? highlighted Shirin Aumeeruddy-Cziffra. She pointed out that there is a need for a ?more open pedagogy? in primary schools to allow children to be as happy as they were in pre-schools. According to her, children are treated as robots as soon as they get to primary school.
