My ex-colleague was a kind of spiritual leader...
Our first encounter was a professional one - Bye Hamid, Vijaye, Guyanand, Vinod and myself ? way back in January 1979. While Bye Hamid was our team leader, Vijaye, I saw very soon, was a kind of spiritual leader. He was a man of rectitude, principle and readiness to serve. Our professional relationship evolved into tight friendship and unfettered brotherhood.
Vijaye?s track record at the Public Relations Unit is a testimony of the zeal and professionalism with which he conducted his job at the ministry of Education whereby he ushered in the practice of customer care even before this notion became a subject of academic interest in many quarters. We made a beautiful team at the ministry. So his demise on this fateful 23rd September ended a life-long friendship webbed over many, many years.
Vijaye was a man of measured but legitimate ambition for his family, his neighbourhood and his colleagues. He was engaged in social work and in spiritual activities, and his deep sense of family responsibility was highly appreciated by his kith and kin. Wherever you are my friend, we know you are alright in the best place reserved for people of honesty. Like Nature we stand up and say ?You were a Man.?
