“Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince”, J.K Rowling’s sixth book was released on the 16th July in English-speaking countries. Who could this half-blood prince be?

First, we should study the title and then look for suspects. HALF-BLOOD PRINCE. What does half-blood mean? A wizard who is muggle (people who do not have even a magical drop of blood in their veins) born is referred as a mudblood, a very nasty word qualifying muggle-born wizards’ blood as common blood, dirty blood.

The term “mudblood” is commonly used between pure bloods (wizards who are like Draco Malfoy and his family) who think they are superior to others just because they come from very long generations of pure-blooded wizards. Anyway, Ron says in Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets “Most wizards are half-blood these days anyway.” That means that wizards who have both parents as muggles can be called half-bloods.

What about squibs? They could be called half-bloods because they have magical blood in their veins but they don’t show any signs of magical powers. This theory is a bit shaky because they have been born in the wizarding world and their parents have pure blood. Any way we don’t know much about squibs. We only know that Argus Flich the, caretaker of Hogwarts, school of witchcraft and wizardry, is one of them. Perhaps a wizard would be called a half-blood man when one parent was a muggle and the other a wizard. So, if anyone wants to be on the list of suspects for the half-blood prince, he should firstly be a half-blood and secondly a prince.

Our main suspect could be Lord Voldemort as his father was a muggle blood prince. So, that makes him a half-blooded man. Now you will surely ask what about the word “prince”? There are four definitions in the Oxford dictionary. The first makes a prince the member of a royal family. That definition does not fit Voldemort, as he was not born in a royal family. The second one makes the prince the ruler of a small state. That fits Voldemort only a little as he rules over his servants. The third does not fit him at all because the third definition is that a prince is a nobleman and we all know that Voldemort is not a nobleman from any angle. The last one can fit Voldemort as a prince as it qualifies a prince as a chief, that Voldemort is. But, if not Voldemort, who else could it be?

What about Tom Marvolo Riddle who makes up “I am Lord Voldemort”? The boy that Voldemort was before becoming a dark wizard. He is very different from the dark lord as in Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets when Harry asks Dobby if Voldemort is going to strike again at Hogwarts school of Witchcraft and Wizardry, the answer was no even if Voldemort’s past was Tom. Now that Voldemort has regained his body he has become more like Tom. But the mystery is still there. Who is this half-blood prince?

Now let’s concentrate on what could be the next adventure that our favorite wizard, Harry, along with his friends, Hermione and Ron will go for. The last chapter of Harry Potter and the Order of Phoenix was The Second War Begins. The first war for Harry was to fight the spirit of Voldemort. So, probably the second war will be fighting a Voldemort who is no longer a spirit but one with a body.

Perhaps you have not noticed but nearly every year Harry spent at Hogwarts there was a death. For example in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, the death of Sirius Black, the godfather of Harry. In Harry Potter and the Order of Phoenix Cedric Diggory, the seeker of the Hufflepuff house, died.
