Leaving a footprint
Readers of l’express-outlook must be familiar with the tips of Ruby Kapoor. “Let’s talk about life” no longer appears as a column but all the tips she has written on life have been assembled in a book. “It is exactly the same concept; short texts that can cheer up people in their daily lives,” the writer explains. The book launch will take place tomorrow and the books will be available at Le Printemps and Editions de l’Océan Indien.
“When my friends started to tell me I should write a book, I was not really keen… I did not know if I would be able to do it. But it definitely was in my head and then I thought I had done so many things already which I never thought I could do that I realised I should try…” This is how she started to work on the book a few months ago.
She is not a specialist in writing or psychology but she “loves people and feels she has something to offer”. She had already done some radio talk shows when she arrived in Mauritius; “I realised that people were sad and lonely and needed help. My husband treats me so well that it came naturally to me. It was something new and I think people enjoyed it; it was a real success.” So, after this experience, she thought about writing to help people see the positive side of life.
“I think this really worked because people knew I was a living example of this. When I arrived in Mauritius, I really hated the country. It was so small, I didn’t know anybody and my husband – who is a pilot – was not always there. So it was difficult at the beginning but I found ways not to get bored and Mauritius has become my second home.”
Ruby’s family has recently decided to leave Mauritius – not because “we are not happy but only because we need new experiences.” With her book, she wants to leave a footprint in the Mauritian sand. And she already plans to come back if any of her friends or any company needs her here…
