Kinouete was shocked by the terms and the tone of the article published in l?express on Tuesday 29 November entitled ?Correctional Youth Centre, what it?s like inside?. Although its author dissociates herself from our association we wish to reiterate that Mrs Cornell?s article does not reflect in any way the attitude and philosophy of Kinouété.

We are extremely concerned with the well-being of the girls at the Rehabilitation Youth Centre (RYC) and this is why we have been working in close collaboration with the authorities for the past few years. We are conscious that the minister of Social Security and her officials are aware of the urgent need to revise and improve the way the RYC is run and that they are committed to this task.

We deeply regret that the name of Kinouété has been associated with an article which denigrates everything and everyone but which, unfortunately for those most concerned ? the girls themselves ? does not serve their cause.
