Kart Loisirs goes for quality
Kart Loisirs has come up again with a brand-new concept. This entertainment area in Petite-Rivière is becoming the in-place for executives to spend a pleasant interlude with friends and family. “What you can have at Kart Loisirs cannot be found anywhere else on the island. You can spend the whole day between the karts and the pool; you can have lunch at the snack-bar restaurant at noon and a more elaborate meal in the evening… And then you can go to the VIP club where Prakash will get you moving with disco and 80s music,” explains Michel Gauthier, the new owner.
If Kart Loisirs has “recovered its health”, it is because of the determination of the new owners, Michel Gauthier and Patrick Gémard. They left France last June to take the place over and make it a pleasant and entertaining venue. As the owner of eight industrial companies in France and Morocco as well as entertainment firms in Europe, it was a new challenge for Michel Gauthier to settle with his family in Mauritius and take over Kart Loisirs. “I had been to Mauritius as a tourist on several occasions and I really enjoyed the place. When I heard that there was a possibility of coming to Petite-Rivière, I did not hesitate. I knew there was a lot to do there…”
The training and experience of both owners will certainly serve the interests of the new club. As an engineer, Michel Gauthier wants the complex to correspond fully to European norms. The nightclub has been completely redecorated and all safety norms have been fully observed. It is now the restaurant’s turn to be renovated. “The new restaurant will open in February. It will include a snack-bar space and a more classy section with an à la carte menu.” Patrick Gémard, a wine expert, will be there to advise customers on the best choice of wines to accompany their meals.
Atmosphere comparable to Ibiza</B>
The brand new VIP Club, whose decoration and atmosphere could easily be “compared to Ibiza or Marbella”, offers free entrance until the end of January to allow people to get to know the place. As from the beginning of next month, the club will be open to members and guests. There will be live music every Friday night as from 9 pm. The entrance fee will be Rs 100 per person including a soft drink or a beer.
According to Michel Gauthier, the response has been very positive so far. Regulars are starting to come for the karts or for the club. Tourists are also showing much interest in the new venue… A promising future for the new owners who do not intend to stop there and will go on with their revamping work to make of Kart Loisirs “a centre of attraction on the Mauritian entertainment scene.”

<B>Karting turns professional…</B>
So as to motivate people to practise karting – and, why not, discover little Schumachers or Prosts? – Kart Loisirs is setting up a school for young drivers as from the end of the month. Children as from six years of age) will be taught competitive driving every Saturday. The managers are also negotiating with the FIA for recognition on an international level and to be able to compete at Indian Ocean level as well as at European level. Finally, the “Trophée Kart Loisirs” is a competition aiming at rewarding the best driver of the year. It will involve eight races – lasting two hours each.

<B>“Wedding fair” in mid-February</B>
Weddings are an important part of the activities of the entertainment business. More than just renting the place for a wedding, the new owners want to offer a full service to people who want their wedding party organised at Kart Loisirs. “We want their problems to become ours. We will take care of the catering, decoration, music… It has to be the most beautiful day of their lives and we’re there to make it a success without them being worried about anything!” As a sort of test, Kart Loisirs is organising its first“Salon du mariage” between11th and 14th February where future couples will be able to shop for their special day. Suits, dresses, shoes, decorations and accessories are some of the products that will be on offer. And this special event will end up with a dinner for all those in love on St Valentine’s Day and a special evening at the VIP Club.
