Jealousy finally got the better of Philippe
Sheila Duval says she could have prevented the death of her husband Philippe. Sheila feels guilty because she did not put an end to the rumours of an alleged love affair with a so-called Raja though she insists they were untrue. Today, her husband is dead and Raja Nobin as well as his brother, Shivaji, have given themselves up to the police.
Philippe had been suspecting this love affair for some time and jealousy might have got the better of him. Rumours had started when Philippe was in prison. Raja often came to Sheila Duval’s home to give her some support. But she is adamant that nothing ever happened between her and Raja. She was aware that he was known as a “womaniser” but “he never showed disrespect for me”.
When Philippe came home after his prison term, he could not stand such rumours and the couple often quarrelled over that issue. He even tried to commit suicide once but his wife arrived in time to save him.
This time however, the fight between the three men started when Raja’s brother was told that Philippe had taken his bicycle. When the brothers saw Philippe on the bike, they started fighting and the fight degenerated when Philippe said, “You tell me I have stolen your brother’s bike. But haven’t you stolen my wife?” Then, according to Raja and Shavini, he took out a knife and Raja killed him while trying to defend himself. It will be up to the police to clarify the situation…
