US President George W. Bush and his staunchest ally, British Prime Minister Tony Blair, started two days of meetings yesterday with both leaders struggling with fallout from the increasingly unpopular Iraq war.

Iraq and the mounting Iran nuclear crisis will top the agenda for the talks today, according to a British embassy spokesman in Washington. The two men were scheduled to hold a joint press conference later yesterday.

Blair’s two-day trip to Washington, his first in nearly a year, comes at a time when both he and Bush are facing a slump in their popularity ratings, in part because of the war in Iraq.
