The Finals of the National Spelling Bee Competition organised by the English-Speaking Union will be held on Wednesday 13th June 2007 in Curepipe Town Hall. A total of 310 participants from 81 secondary schools took part in the heats. The competition is about spelling words but the main purpose is to help in improving spelling, increasing vocabulary, learning concepts and developing correct English usage.

Competitions at four different levels, i.e. Forms I, II, III and IV are organised on the same day. In each Form level, eight qualifiers are selected for the finals.

The eight finalists of Form I are Friendship College Girls, Northfields International High School, Mahatma Gandhi Institute, John Kennedy College, Loreto College Bambous Virieux, Royal College Curepipe, Dr Maurice Curé State College and Sodnac State Secondary School.

The finalists of Form II are Triolet State Secondary School Boys, Loreto College Port Louis, Ebene State Secondary School Boys, Sebastopol State Secondary School, Loreto College Mahebourg, Hindu Girls? College, Phoenix State Secondary School and Mahatma Gandhi Secondary School Solferino.

The finalists of Form III are Bell Village State Secondary School, Loreto College Port Louis, Mahatma Gandhi Secondary School Moka, Nelson College, France Boyer de la Giroday State Secondary School, Hindu Girls? College, Sodnac Secondary School and College St Esprit.

The finalists of Form IV are BPS Fatima College, Loreto College Port Louis, Mahatma Gandhi Secondary School Moka, Mahatma Gandhi Secondary School flacq, Loreto College Mahebourg, Hindu Girls? College, Mahatma Gandhi Secondary School Solferino and Aleemiah College.
