G8 statement to urge Iran to reply
The Group of Eight industrialized nations called on Iran in a statement yesterday to respond soon to an offer by major powers over Tehran?s nuclear programs, a Western diplomat said.
The statement will have language that we hope and expect to get ?an answer soon,? the diplomat told reporters, citing the statement which was to be issued later at the end of a meeting of G8 foreign ministers.
Iran?s nuclear plans were the focus of discussion of ministers from the United States, Russia, Japan, France, Britain, Italy, Canada and Germany who gathered at a city center mansion in Moscow to prepare for a summit of G8 leaders in mid-July.
