Fury greets Miss Mexico’s dress
A dress set to be worn by Miss Mexico in the Miss Universe pageant has caused uproar, not because it is too revealing but because it is too violent. The flowing dress depicts scenes from a Roman Catholic uprising against Mexico’s secular state in the 1920s, in which thousands died. Critics say the theme is inappropriate for the competition, which takes place in Mexico City next month. The designers now say the dress will be modified to take account of concerns. Miss Mexico, Rosa Maria Ojeda, has already worn the dress in public, showing off the billowing, hoop skirt adorned by scenes from the 1926-1929 Cristero War.
