This is the story of joyful and imaginative kids. The little boy is dynamic and cool; the little girl is curious and wants to look just like her mother. What do they have in common? They both wear something with a little gecko somewhere… and they both love it, just like their parents do! With their bright colours, original designs and good quality fabrics, the clothes from Gecko Kids shops have reasons for their young customers, aged up to ten years old, to rejoice.

Since its setting up in 1993, Gecko Kids Ltd has always had the same objective behind its creations: satisfying its customers. The name itself speaks to children who love the brand. Because they are original, easy-to-wear and creative, Gecko clothes are quite fascinating for them. The company makes it a point of meeting children’s expectations.

With this in mind, what else than questioning the main concerned to know exactly what they would like? “We often do ‘round-tables’ with children to know what would be their preferences… We seize every opportunity for that – birthday parties, family parties. With these market information, we know that children are looking for colours and like the feeling of touching the design or embroidery for instance,” reveals Varnee, the company’s designer. Of course, she also has to keep in touch with trends and fashion to do a good collection.

With all these criteria, the collections are quite frequent. “We actually create six collections every year,” explains Kanya, the marketing manager. “And each collection includes 40 different models,” she adds. This requires a lot of work the more so as an item would never go into production if it does not match up perfectly to the designer’s expectations or the company’s guidelines. But work has never stopped the staff from moving ahead…

<B>Inspiration directly from... Mauritius</B>

Sharon has been working at Gecko Kids Ltd for seven years. Employed in the silk-screen printing, she admits she “loves her job. Manufacturing clothes for children is joyful; working with so many bright colours makes you work in a very pleasant atmosphere…” Like Sharon, Ruben, Nathalie or Dominique– to mention just a few - are just as fond of Gecko Kids as they are of children. “Most of the employees have been here since Gecko Kids was first created and they are really attached to the brand. The staff is definitely a main strength of the company,” explains Kanya.

Thanks to its devoted staff in the workshop and its charming salesgirls in the four shops around the island, Gecko Kids can proudly market its trendy Gecko. It seems to be not only a brand but a whole spirit. Moreover, Varnee willingly admits that her inspiration comes directly from… Mauritius! The tropical theme full of colours, spices, sun and fun is just a proof that Gecko Kids Ltd is a 100% Mauritian company. This is probably why tourists are so fond of the brand… “Gecko Kids clothes or accessories are just like a souvenir that tourists like to take back in their suitcases… And we’re also happy to see that we often have those who come back to the shop, looking for the same things they bought during their latest trip,” confides Varnee.

The fact that the products are 100% natural fabric, hand-printed, embroidered and painted and totally environment-friendly just adds to the quality. “Silk-screen printing, sketch and pattern as well as the samples are made in-house. It was a choice to keep everything hand-made since it has a ‘handicraft touch’ that we would in no way want to lose,” says Kanya.

This search for quality transpires in all Gecko Kids clothes and accessories. With their bright colours refer to the sun, sea, sky and holidays, the Gecko Kids will swoop down on them… Because they like the sea, nature and animals… particularly the colourful geckos from Mauritius!
