The budget may be starting to show its first “adepts”. The British brand name, Pink Pigeon, has already been incorporated in Mauritius to set up a number of projects in different fields – hotel industry and beverages more especially. The total amount of the investment is expected to be around Rs 1.2 billion.

The idea is to use Mauritian skills and territory to satisfy British customers. Hence, G & Co and 1st Key – two British companies – will partner with the Sugar Investment Trust (SIT) and Enterprise Investment Properties to create the unique brand, Pink Pigeon.

Hence, the first project will be the Pink Pigeon hotel, a 200 room-hotel in the airport area. The group is also thinking of setting up an IRS project in the South, in the undeveloped area of Le Bouchon. Besides this project, a more uncommon one is taking shape: Pink Pigeon Rum & Fruits. Tests are currently being done on the British market to see if this new drink composed of rum and local fruits will will suit British consumers’ tastes.

If the SIT gives its approval concerning the allocation of land, the British investors are ready to start business as from September. Thanks to the opening of air access planned in the next few months, the British are confident that their projects will be successful. The Mauritian side is just as excited at the idea, as ministers Duval and Sithanen are favourable to the emergence of Mauritian branding abroad… Everyone should be happy with what appears to be a win-win situation.
