BA flight makes emergency landing </B>
A British Airways flight from London to Frankfurt made a safe emergency landing at Brussels airport on Sunday after what appeared to be a false fire alert on board, authorities said.
“There were no visible traces on board the plane,” a Brussels fire brigade spokesman said of inspections carried out after the aircraft landed.
Brussels airport spokesman Jos de Houwer said all 143 people on board the aircraft got off safely after the incident. They were being taken by coach to Frankfurt.
De Houwer said the pilot had received a warning signal that a fire had broken out in the hold and had decided to make an emergency landing.
Iran offers 2-month atomic enrichment halt</B>
Iran’s chief nuclear negotiator Ali Larijani offered a 2-month suspension of its nuclear enrichment programme in weekend talks with European Union foreign policy chief Javier Solana, accordingto an EU diplomat, from one of the six countries that offered Iran incentives to freeze its uranium enrichment programme. He was speaking on condition of anonymity because he is not authorised to talk with journalists.
<B>Israeli tank fire kills Palestinian boy</B>
An Israeli tank shell landed near a group of Palestinians in the southern Gaza town of Rafah killing a 14-year-old boy and wounding a 19-year-old relative, Palestinian witnesses and medics said. An Israeli army spokesman confirmed the incident, saying forces in the area had identified two Palestinians whom they suspected of planting explosives and had fired a tank shell at them. Residents said both were civilians. The Israeli military has been pressing an offensive in Gaza since late June, following the kidnapping of one its soldiers by Gaza militants. At least 210 Palestinians, around half of them civilians, have been killed in the offensive.
G20 meeting agrees to resume WTO talks </B>
WTO chief Pascal Lamy said that rich and developing nations had agreed that talks on a global trade pact should be renewed but they had not yet set a date. Lamy was speaking at a news conference at a meeting in Rio de Janeiro of representatives of the G20 group of developing nations, the United States, Japan and the European Union. It was the first time officials had met since the Doha Round of talks collapsed in July.
