About discrimination

The saga for the time being goes about the minority groups in Mauritius. This, we all know, spouts mainly from the newly appointed ministers. The skirmish is of course about what we call minority groups in terms of ethnic groups.

Is the fight about Creoles, Muslims or even Chinese all we need to look for? If yes, why not disrupt the whole thing? It?s about a typical kind of mentality, then, why not reverse it?

For those who have forgotten, let me remind you that there is an incessant division/discriminatory way of doing amongst the supposedly majority themselves! (How? Ever heard of casteism? No, it does not only belong to India, it?s here even amongst the cream of the country.)

Yes, Discrimination again!! No more of it please! Fighting for our community is a psychological mechanism. We tend to dissociate ourselves from what we fear and dear Patriots, let us now associate ourselves with what is called ethnicity for we are all MAURITIANS!No, I?m not insane! On your passport is written Mauritian, there where lies the nationality slot! Dear Honorable ministers and Mauritian citizens, do not forget that you the former have been elected to fulfill your duty towards the Mauritian community and not towards what we call ethnic community.

On the other hand, let?s act as true Mauritians and focus on progress and welfare for each and every citizen as equal individuals. I am being very far from denying that discrimination at all levels forms an integral part of the system.

For instance, women are very often looked down upon because of the sexist mentality of many of our patriots. Elsewhere, people are judged by their physique instead of their skills, their ability and most importantly their academic qualifications.

In many industries, priority is given to HSC holders instead of degree holders since a smaller salary is disbursed to pay the former than the latter.

Is this not also a type of discrimination towards those who have been toiling hard to climb up the social hierarchy? Discrimination hail!

The syndicates are also being fired or threatened for voicing out/denouncing injustice and those having an upper hand are, of course, those who enjoy the top position in the hierarchy.

My message to all of YOU, all of US, would be to let us work together as one big community for, without us, the economy of the country goes down the drain, no matter which sector we are into.

The Majority is US? MAURITIAN workers ? whether intellectuals or labourers. Those who are appointed as ministers are there thanks to our humble votes.

The decision is within our hands. Opt for changes; THINK what we are looking for before generously giving out votes.If the system is corrupt, then let?s look for ways to eliminate this problem, stop being a Hindu, Muslim, Chinese or Creole when you are voting.

Think and be Meritocratious ? Democrats ! Mauritian citizen, pas al mor lisien.
