<B>What about those very rich people or politicians ? </B>

It is very sad indeed that the media and political parties are not voicing enough of their total dissatisfaction concerning the NRPT and interests tax. Middle class people are contributing enormously for the welfare of the country and are already burdened with very high direct and indirect taxation that we find is the highest in the world. We are already paying enormous tax for purchase of our car, road tax and petrol tax. We normally employ a gardener and helper at home. Thus helping the poor people. (...) We go to private doctors or clinics and purchase our own medicines. Thus we are helping the government health services. (...) Many of us have gone through untold miseries to set up our small business and now that we are having a little sucess, MRA wants to grab our savings. Will MRA or government give us money freely when we lose our job/business?

Inflation and VAT are amongst the highest in the world here and we ought to get more than inflation from our bank savings. The opposite is taking place. Banks should go to the Supreme Court to protect their clients. Many of us have spent enormous amount of money for our studies without any government help and now MRA wants to lay its hands on our perspiration also ! Taxpayers? money is not being used judiciously at all. Audit reports of past years prove this. So, why grab (or rob) our money to spend in an unproductive way?

Why is it that people are being harassed because double taxation is being imposed upon them ? (money saved after paying taxes + additional tax on savings).

(...) We have been doing enormous sacrifices (our parents have been working night and day and we have been helping them also) to overcome poverty and to gradually join the middle class family. Now that we have reached that level, Government wants us to descend again to another poverty level ! May be this is their hidden agenda. Even planters who take many risks are being deprived of their savings. What is the use of an NRPT tax when people in the town area are already paying taxes since decades ? Many people in the urban areas will now have to pay more with the present form of NRPT tax. This is called organised legal robbery.

Why harass retired people who have saved for their old days ? At least they should be exempted. Let them die in peace. By killing the middle class many will flee the country (many have already done so) or else the remainder will become poor again. (...)

A final decision needs to be taken urgently to alleviate our harassment... To save our country.
