Book sharing at Mauritius College of the Air
The National Resource Centre of the Mauritius College of the Air (MCA) celebrated World Book Day yesterday in quite an original way. This event is aimed at giving its staff and that of the Mauritius Examina-tions Syndicate (MES), the opportunity of sharing books. The initiative began yesterday morning and will end on Friday. Its aims are to encourage reading, sharing of books, ex-change of ideas and networking.
The activity began with some 400 books. According to the organisers, the number will keep increasing as members of staff bring in some more books. The process is simple. All the staff brought books, which are unused at their place and displayed them on shelves of the National Resource Centre. All sorts of books can be found - fiction, documentaries and even a section for children’s books. All those who have children have made the most of it. Moreover there was also a show of video programmes.
Promote reading</B>
One of the main organizers, Christine Ah-Fat, Head of the National Resource Center at the MCA, believes the event has been a success so far. Indeed, yesterday staff members from all departments gathered and started taking books. Drivers, receptionists and lecturers were all attending. Christine Ah-Fat explains: “We want to promote the importance of reading. I am very satisfied with the way the staff has responded to the event. In fact, it is even better than what we had expected!” For her part, Ooma Gopal, MCA documentation officer stressed the sponsor’s key role: “Thanks to Nestlé, the event took another dimension!”
