Australia says Bush wins victory against terror
US President George W. Bush’s election win was a victory for the fight against terror, Australian Prime Minister John Howard said yesterday. Howard, one of Washington’s staunchest allies, was among the first to back the US-led war in Iraq. “This is a strong reaffirmation of his leadership of the United States in its fight against world terrorism, it’s a victory for the anti-terrorism cause,” he said of Bush.
“This is a wonderful personal victory for a person who I like,” said Howard, who telephoned Bush to congratulate him. Only last month Bush congratulated Howard for his own resounding election victory when his conservative government was returned for a fourth consecutive term.
