An Ariane 5 cargo rocket with two communications satellites was launched into space Sunday at 22.03 GMT from a launch pad at Europe’s Guiana Space Center in Kourou, French Guiana.

The launch, originally scheduled for Saturday and delayed due to technical problems, hauled India’s INSAT-4B broadcast satellite and the British Ministry of Defence’s Skynet-5A satellite into orbit.

The 3-ton INSAT-4B satellite is designed to provide telecommunications and television broadcast services for customers in India while the 4.7-ton Skynet-5A is built to improve communications for the British Ministry of Defence.

Sunday’s launch was the first of the year for Arianespace, but the 175th flight of an Ariane booster and the 31st liftoff of the rocket family’s Ariane 5 variant, according to Space.com.
