It smells of childhood? As soon as you step into the colourful shop, you immediately feel you would like to turn back time and become a child again. Well, there is no need to be a child to appreciate Tante Jeanne?s sweets. Brigitte Jauffret has set up her shop to please both adults who haven?t eaten such sweets for years and the younger generations that wish to discover them.

?It all started when I stopped working. I had a long career in a private company and I wanted to do something that would please me?? Brigitte explains. Running her little shop at Ruisseau Créole really seems to be more pleasure than business for her. When she hears the door open, her eyes sparkle. She knows someone will be happy to discover her sweets.

What seems to work best in fact is the ice-cream corner. After going around the many shops of Ruisseau Créole, what more could you wish for than a nice cool ice- cream? During the short interview we had with the lady, a young couple, a little girl and a father with his son came one after the other intoTante Jeanne?s. All of them attracted by the various ice cream flavours on sale there. And every time the door opens, the same sweet voice, broad smile and sparkle in the eye? Even though the customers are not looking for the main item of the shop, sweets.

?I don?t mind even if customers do not buy the sweets for the moment. I am sure this will come later. Those who have known these sweets in their childhood come to look for them. The others will discover them with time,? she says. Boiled sweets, fruit sweets, barley sugar, fudge, lollypops, acid drops? Everyone should find what he/she likes in the little shop. All these sweets are craft-made by ?one of the best confectioners in the South of France,? guarantees Brigitte.

The owner also has her ?favourites?? Fruit jelly sweets, candied chestnuts, and small iced cakes made with almonds are the pride of the sweet shop. Of course, they cost more than the other sweets but they are really worth it.

Brigitte is satisfied with her shop but would like to have an even greater variety of sweets to enable people to discover what she liked to eat when she was a child. Loukoums and marshmallows are among them. But, even without these childhood favourites, it is still worth going there? to rediscover the pleasure of eating sweets at Tante Jeanne?s? ?Because everyone had a Aunt Jeanne who always had sweets to give children at home.?
