Is the «death squadron» back?
The ?death squadron? may date back several years but its frightening image is still very present in people?s minds. So when the police arrest three people in a car near Grand-Bassin with suspicious objects in the car, the thought that it could be a revival of the death squadron makes us shiver? The three suspects have been detained.
Last Friday, the Anti-Drug and Smuggling Unit and the Emergency Response Service were organising roadblocks in different points of the island when it came across a group of three men in a Honda Civic. When the police made a search in the car, they found a tear gas aerosol, two pairs of handcuffs, a pair of walkie-talkies as well as number plates.
The police suspect that the ?gang? could have something to do with the many hold-ups that occurred in jewelleries as well as in a Tote System office in Curepipe lately. They also suspect that the three men could be involved in the hold-up of a service station in Beau-Bassin. In view of this serious situation, the prime minister, Navin Ramgoolam, is following this case very closely.
The three men in the car ? Joomun Boolaky, 31, Ramtoolah Hossen, 26, and Ali Salauroo, 21 ? all asserted to the police that they did not know where these objects came from, as the car actually did not belong to them. After enquiring with the National Transport Authority, the police realised the car belonged to a certain Mamad Naser Poumun, 31? But they were far from imagining what they would discover next?
Naser Poumun confided to the police that his car was rented out to Celh Meeah. The latter actually contacted Naser Poumun?s mother-in-law, who has a car rental business, to rent a car for a long period. As his mother-in-law had no cars left, she asked Naser Poumun to rent his own car, which he agreed to do. After the affair was concluded, Cehl Meeah said his brother-in-law would come and take the car?
Which has finally been found in Pétrin near Grand-Bassin with dangerous objects in it. The three men in the car asserted they were going to a wedding in Mont-Blanc near Grand-Bassin.
