They say I’m Venus,

I’m the woman,

I’m the fragile, the feminine, the frail.

They say you’re Mars,

You’re the man,

You’re the robust, the masculine,

the strong.

But do they know my struggles,

my pain?

Do they know that Venus and Mars

reside in me?

I’m the fire,

I’m the drive.

You said I was your muse.

Yet, you abused,

You consumed,

And I kept giving you everything

you needed.

Pleasure, love, comfort, dream and

even faith.

You deserted me at my lowest.

I had to find the courage, the spark and

the hope.

I had to be Mars;

The fit, the fire.

I’m the fire!

A Mauritian living in the United Arab Emirates, she is a novelist, screenwriter, proofreader, editor, blogger, book cover designer and illustrator. She was the winner of the “Flash Fiction-Blossom Tales” challenge, U.A.E, for her story “Shimmer in the Meadows”.
