Plumes engagées
Mahatma Gandhi
Anita Aujayeb.
À l’heure du tout à l’image et du buzz sans suite, «l’express» souhaite faire découvrir la plume de poètes, de chanteurs, d’écrivains et de tous ceux qui jettent leur âme sur le papier, et qui mettent en mots des réflexions profondes.
A lawyer among other Indian-born lawyers
after long studies in G. Britain for years.
In the first year of the nineteen hundred
the Mahatma-to-be in Mauritius landed.
Started here the struggle of the immigrant,
They could think, of their stories poignant.
Politics entered their minds heavy.
Voting rights were sought by many.
He sent the 1st Indian practising lawyer in Mauritius
Manilal Doctor saved Indians from masters furious.
Public opinion had to be stirred.
Political manifestations were duly heard.
The sugar Barons could not be happy
As rights and laws were applied in the colony.
The cooperative movement came to light.
Sufferings and pains brought to subside.
The new Newspaper was all might.
Community work progressed at great stride,
Dignity of the labourer was restored,
Some self-esteem to them brought Gandhi
Had but one ideal in view,
To bring all the Indentured together,
To share all pain and pleasure
In this life far from home,
Under the same sun which everywhere shone.
“Gratitude is the memory of the heart”.
Lao-Tzu
