On being responsible

Enquete en direct is a radio program that takes stock of listeners? grievances. Its main host?s aptitudes matches perfectly with such a venue by unrelentingly knocking at the right doors while denouncing social flaws on air. It thus aims at improving community welfare fulfilling a most laudable aspect of media social responsibility. However, in his morning editorial of 15th May, this defender and negotiator rightfully swapped his shining armour for a school master?s outfit.

Advocating a proactive approach, he reproached those parents who, when faced with urgent and unforeseen situations such as «blurred» adverse weather conditions, rely on the authorities to decide on sending their children to school? Making a parallel with the recent misfortunes of China and Burma, he justly told us to be more objective and responsible instead of acting as capricious children.

Coming from somebody dealing with complaints, this advice takes all its worth. Standing on one?s own feet is a sign of maturity. No one?s going to change our life with a magic wand. Some rightly say that the only constancy is change. Responsibility is about rightly responding to change, irrespective of it being unforeseen or not. We should evaluate the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats in our environment and act accordingly. Counting our blessings is as important as rightfully complaining.

However, this approach to life is not granted, it is learnt. It?s all about educating people to do so. Are we ready to take this challenge?
