● WORLD BOOK DAY ? The world celebrates books and authors on 23rd April, date chosen by UNESCO to promote reading, publishing and the protection of intellectual property through copyright. This date was chosen because it coincides with the birth or death of famous authors like Shakespeare, Nabokov, Cervantes, etc. The local celebration is on Saturday at the municipality of Curepipe jointly with the National Library.
● BIRTHDAY CELEBRATION ? Queen Elizabeth II turns 82 today. This is her actual birthday, which she celebrates with her family, and an official one in June. In spite of her age, the Queen still fulfils quite a lot of engagements at home and abroad. Here the British High Commissioner, Dr John Murton, marks the occasion by a reception on Wednesday.
