What is the purpose of the event you?re organising next Sunday?

Meditation means the expansion of consciousness. Mass meditation means when people come together to meditate. When many people get together to meditate, we create a greater feel of spiritual vibration that?s very conducive to enhancing the atmosphere of everything. It?s as if you?re bathed in a vibration that can transform your heart and your mind. To reach such a state we need to produce much spiritual vibration.

We will be practising a meditation technique that I have named Rebirth therapy. Why Rebirth? We are born as a physical body but not yet as a soul and a mind. Not even science has been able to discover that we have something called ?the mind?, which is independent of the brain and the body. Rebirth therapy is a method, a technique that will help the individual to be born as a spirit. It may seem ?strong? to say that by practising a method of meditation one can be born as a soul, as a spirit and can experience a second birth, but it is true.

There are two types of meditation: the passive method and the dynamic method. The passive method such as the Vipassana of Buddha, where one just observes one?s breathing, was better adapted to people who were simple, honest and pure. Today that situation has changed a lot.

Rebirth therapy is a dynamic method. To throw out the madness, the toxins and the conditionings we need very powerful methods. People?s unconsciousness is very profound and to break that conditioning we have devised a dynamic meditation method, which yields quicker results. We want to initiate people to this dynamic method.

Any form of meditation, if practiced diligently, can become a rebirth therapy. I want to help people understand that they are born as a body but that a new person, the purest part of your being, is waiting to be born. My aim is to make people aware of meditation, that it is a science and a contribution towards a better society. My understanding is that only meditation can change the mind and the heart of the individual. Politicians talk about ?putting people first? but no one other than you can put people first.

● Is ?Rebirth therapy? open to everyone?

It is open to everyone but I must underline a very important fact. We are inviting people aged between 16 and 55. Normally, one must begin meditating at a young age. In ancient spiritual schools, people started meditating by the age of 12 when emotional and sexual energies begin to develop. These energies were used to fuel the mind. Today the situation is very different because of conditioning and pampering. Medita-tion is all about touching an infinite ocean of energy.

We?ve set the age limit at 55 because Rebirth therapy is a dynamic method with rapid breathing that will churn the depths of your mind and we don?t know how some people will react. Those who attend the therapy should be in good health and be ready. Pregnant women, those who have just undergone a surgical operation or suffered a severe mental depression and those who have chronic asthma should abstain.

● What ails society?

The main ailment is division, the notion of being a fragmented consciousness. The root of all problems is the ego. In fact, it is our attitude towards our ego that creates the problems. The ego itself is a seed. People do not know who they are, why they are here, where they are going, what their purpose is. We are like rudderless boats in the ocean, bumping into each other. Science says that if we continue along the current trend, the whole of humanity will be extinct. I don?t want to paint everything in black but a spade has to be called a spade. My observation is that society is extremely sick. The way things are going I?m afraid there might not be much of a ?tomorrow?.

● You?ve written extensively on education. According to you, what would be the forward in terms of education?

My observation is that what people call education is not in fact education. The origin of the word education is ?educere?, which is to lead out. What exactly does our secular education lead us out of? Another meaning of the word education is ?educe?, which means to develop that which is latent, to bring out the best in people. I don?t see anything apart from meditation and spirituality, which accomplishes that.

Instead of leading us out of our ignorance, our greed and our anger, the current system of education is leading us further away from our individual selves. My vision of education is that we should be educated about who we are, what it means to be a human being, what our relationship with nature is.

● What is the meaning of life?

Many people ask me this question. Life itself has no meaning but we can give meaning to it. After more than 30 years of research and meditation, my observation is that human life is a gift, you may say it comes from God, you may say it comes from Nature. We have received a gift and we conceal tremendous possibilities. The ultimate possibility is to flourish in peace and love and to be united with the whole of existence. That?s the most beautiful thing, to reach the centre of your being, to experience truth. But we are far away from such a situation.
