● For what was Robert Rivalland found guilty?
Robert Rivalland, former executive director of Air Mauritius, was found guilty on 3rd April of complicity in the embezzlement of Rs.85 millions from the above-mentioned company?s fund. He has been sentenced to six months? imprisonment and has appealed to the Supreme Court. The verdict was founded on the testimony of Gérard Tyack, former financial director of Air Mauritius. The latter was found guilty and sentenced to a term of 2 years? imprisonment.

The magistrates of the Port-Louis Court are: Benjamin Marie Joseph, Nicolas Ohsan Bellepeau and Renuka Devi Dabee.
● What did Gérard Tyack testify?
According to Gérard Tyack, his former boss, Sir Harry Tirvengadum, asked him to find a device that could be used to finance «Advance», Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam?s newspaper at the time. Following this request, Gérard Tyack asked the advice of Robert Rivalland and he alleges that the latter told him that Air Mauritius should take a special commission over the sale of some air tickets. This money was allegedly used to that end and also funded other informal projects.
● Did Air Mauritius sue Robert Rivalland in court?
The Air Mauritius did not start any legal proceedings against Robert Rivalland. The police initiated criminal action against Gerard Tyack, Sir Harry Tirvengadum, Joseph Yip Tong, Derek Taylor, and him. Sir Harry Tirvengadum and Joseph Yip Tong have been cleared on health grounds and Derek Taylor?s has been dismissed. Apart from Gérard Tyack who has already been convicted, Robert Rivalland is the second party to be judged guilty.
