DOMESTIC VIOLENCE IN THE LIMELIGHT. 16 days have been earmarked to fight domestic violence. Events will be organised until 10th December ? Human Rights Day ? to try and reduce the high rate of domestic violence in Mauritius. 1,700 cases are recorded in Mauritius every year. The ministry of Women recommends stricter laws and a better implementation of measures to reduce this number. A website has been launched with information on services offered by non-governmental organisations.

Visas no longer need for Reunion. Mauritian citizens will have no difficulty to enter Reunion Island as from Saturday. A visa will no longer be required for stays of less than two weeks. The cumulated length of the stays should however not go beyond 120 days in one calendar year and there must be at least seven days between each stay. A valid passport, a return ticket, confirmed accommodation and an insurance policy are however needed for entry.
