■ <B> RACE 1 ? THE J. HENRY YTHIER CBE CUP</B>

Wise Owl reared at the start, was slow out, as was Judgement Call, both horses losing about one length. Lockerbie raced wide on the first turn. In the back straight Grosvenor Square had a tendency to hang in and near the 600 metres was taken out and raced wide from thereon. From the 400 metres Rue Royale was taken out and made the turn into the final straight very wide. Wise Owl hung in in the final straight. At an inquiry into an incident, jockey Wachill (Peruzzi) pleaded guilty to a charge under Rule 161 (c) in that passing the 300 metres he carelessly allowed his mount to shift in, resulting in Judgement Call and Space Centre to be cramped for room and Jazz King, which was following, having to be inconvenienced. In assessing penalty, the Stewards took into consideration jockey Wachill?s clean record. He was therefore suspended from riding in races for one race meeting. Jockey Joowaron reported that Space Centre hung in throughout. A subsequent veterinary examination revealed that the horse was lame on both fore legs. In view of this, trainer S. Ramdin was told that Space Centre will need a veterinarycertificate of soundness before being allowed to race again.

Routine urine specimens were taken for analysis from Jazz King and Peruzzi prior to the race and from Ice Flow prior to and after the race.

■ <B> RACE 2 ? THE JACQUES VALLET CUP</B>

The Club?s Veterinary Surgeon reported that Jet Propelled was lame on the off hind leg and unfit to race and was withdrawn on Friday at 8 a.m. In view of this, all bets on the horse were ordered to be refunded and betting with bookmakers was re-opened. Trainer R. Maingard was told that this horse will need a veterinary certificate of soundness before being allowed to race again. Link Up jumped awkwardly, shifted ground outwards, bumping Sun King. Near the 400 metres Royal Lineage had to be eased and taken out off the heels of Port Jackson which was tiring. Passing the 400 metres Kings Arms was taken out for a clear run and made the turn into the final straight wide. Passing the 300 metres Mr. Millionaire was taken out for a clear run and in so doing inconvenienced Sun King on its outside. Jockey Teeha was shown the video of the incident, issued with a warning and told to exercise more care when shifting ground. Mr. Millionaire hung out badly in the final straight. The Club?s Veterinary Surgeon reported that Port Jackson was not striding out properly and was stumbling repeatedly. In view of this, trainer Rameshwar Gujadhur was told that this horse will need a veterinary certificate of soundness before being allowed to race again. When questioned about the improved performance of Shuttlecock, trainer C. Ramdin reported that at its last start the rider had difficulty settling the horse as it does not like running unsettled. On this occasion jockey Naiko settled the horse, which had run good times at training, and from its good draw, the trainer expected a better showing of the horse.

Routine urine specimens were taken for analysis from Sugar Prince and Century Lad prior to the race and from Shuttlecock prior to and after the race.

■ <B>RACE 3 ? THE GUY DESMARAIS CUP</B>

Casey?s Bluff threw its head up, was slow out and Coronation Cup was also slow out, losing about one length and two lengths respectively. Iwe Spiwe jumped awkwardly, was unbalanced for a short distance and shifted inwards. In the back straight Judge Boesman raced fiercely and near the 700 metres was taken out to avoid the heels of Borzov and in so doing brushed Bang On Time which was taken wider and raced wide from thereon. Alarming Swing was taken out for a clear run from the 600 metres and raced wide from thereon. Approaching the 400 metres, Iwe Spiwe was crowded for a short distance and had to be steadied off the heels of Sideliner when the latter was taken out when awkward on the heels of Lombardy which had shifted out slightly. From the 300 metres until entering the final straight Bold Plum was held up for a run. Passing the 100 metres Judge Boesman shifted out abruptly.

■ <B>RACE 4 ? THE MAJOR PAUL HEIN CUP</B>

Salute The Star jumped awkwardly and shifted inwards shortly after. War Council and Telaroyal were slow out, both losing about one length. Really Something jumped awkwardly with jockey Brown becoming unbalanced over one stride. Really Something was taken wide from the 450 metres for a clear run. Shortly after entering the final straight War Council, which was awkward on the heels of Umzinto, was steadied and taken inwards. Road To Jerusalem laid in badly in the final straight. Jockey Woodworth was questioned as regards to the disappointing performance of Umhlanga. He stated that in his opinion the distance might have been too far and he felt that Umhlanga which was racing for the 10th time this season felt tired and failed to quicken in the final straight.

■ <B>RACE 5 ? THE GAETAN HALBWACHS CUP</B>

At the start National Manner and Paris Skye were slow out, both losing about one length. Shortly after the start Press Line shifted in, crowding Monomotapa onto Midnite Mass. Passing the 1400 metres Champ in Action, when being taken to the running rails, started to over-race, threw its head up over some distance. Wolfe Tone raced wide on the first turn. Shortly after entering the final straight, jockey Rawa lost his off side rein which he regained near the 100 metres. Over the concluding stages, Monomotapa and National Manner were inconvenienced when Press Line was taken in when Champ In Action shifted in off the heels of Waves Of Winter for a clear run. Shortly after, Press Line shifted out and Waves of Winter shifted in, resulting in Champ in Action being slightly inconvenienced. Waves Of Winter hung in in the final straight and could not be properly assisted.

■ <B> RACE 6 ? THE MAURITIAN PROPERTY PARTNERSHIPS CUP</B>

The Stewards inquired into an incident near the 400 metres and questioned jockeys Bennett (The Duke Of Dixie), Herholdt (Maison de Paris) and Daby (Go The Roman) and trainers P. Merven and S. Henry. It was established that jockey Herholdt took Maison de Paris out, thereby bumping Go The Roman onto The Duke Of Dixie which was badly unbalanced and taken wide, having to race very wide from thereon. Considering the margin that separated Maison de Paris and The Duke Of Dixie at the finish, the Stewards decided to demote Maison de Paris and place it behind The Duke Of Dixie. Consequently the official result is : 1st The Duke Of Dixie, 2nd Maison de Paris. At an inquiry into the above mentioned incident, jockey Herholdt pleaded guilty to a charge under Rule 161 (c) for careless riding and was fined Rs 20,000. At the start The Duke Of Dixie was slow into stride. Shortly after the start Little Gee shifted in, crowding Maison de Paris. Go The Roman raced wide throughout and compounded badly in the final straight. At an inquiry into an incident, jockey Herholdt pleaded guilty to a charge under Rule 53 A (a) in that he conducted himself in an improper manner by causing material damage to a door in the Jockeys? Room. He was fined Rs 5,000.

■ <B>RACE 7 ? THE J. PAUL HEIN CMG CUP</B>

At the start In Her Honour and Dick Dastardly were slow out, both losing about one length. Barrister jumped awkwardly. Passing the 1300 metres Royal Dome had to be steadied off the heels of Ticket To Space. At the 1100 metres Dick Dastardly started to over-race, threw its head up, when being settled off the heels of Cash On Delivery and continued to over-race up to the 800 metres. Approaching the 1000 metres Dane?s Castle, when steadied off the heels of Cash On Delivery, threw its head up and commenced to over-race. Approaching the 100 metres Royal Dome was taken in off the heels of Cash On Delivery in order to obtain a clear run and, in doing so, inconvenienced In Her Honour on its inside. Jockey Daby was shown the video of the incident and advised to show care at all times. The Club?s Veterinary Surgeon reported that traces of blood were found in the trachea of Cash On Delivery. In view of this, trainer S. Ramdin was told that Cash On Delivery should be treated accordingly before being entered to race again. Routine urine specimen was taken for analysis from Gold Guild after the race.

■ <B>RACE 8 ? THE DEMDYKE PLATE</B>

Jockey Bennett, who was stood down by the Club?s Doctor, was replaced on Stephen Jones by jockey Wachill. New Recruit stood flat-footed, was slow out, losing many lengths. At an inquiry into an incident, jockey Sooful (Guzerat) pleaded guilty to a charge under Rule 161 (c) in that near the 1300 metres he carelessly allowed his mount to shift in, resulting in Droplet being badly cramped for room over a short distance and eventually clipping the heels of Guzerat. When assessing penalty, the Stewards took into consideration that jockey Sooful had been suspended for two race meetings on the 25th meeting. Consequently, he was suspended from riding in races for one race meeting and fined Rs 10,000. The Club?s Veterinary Surgeon reported that Almahab bled from bothnostrils. In view of this report and, acting under Rule 166 (2) (c), trainer A. Perdrau was told that Almahab has been suspended for one month and will need a veterinary clearance before being allowed to race again. Jockey Orffer pleaded guilty to a charge under Rule 53 A (a) in that after the race, in the jockeys? room, he conducted himself in an improper manner towards a fellow jockey. He was fined Rs 10,000.
