The political pot is on the boil again. It looks that at last the MMM has realized that it can be a major force to be reckoned with on the political front. After playing kingmaker for so long, it is now able to appreciate the real clout it can wield. Would it be prepared to go it alone at the next general elections or alternatively insist on being the driving force in any electoral pact or just compromise to its disadvantage as it has done in the past, only time will tell? Has the MSM at last realized that it is not in a position to make outrageous demands, hence the reason why it is dithering as who to choose as its next ally. It is worth noting that the MSM has not been critical of the prime minister for quite some time, its main and constant target seems to be the minister of Finance. Is it a prelude to an alliance with Labour? If it is, yet again the MSM will not be in a strong bargaining power considering that the Labour party already has a motley crew hanging on to its tail. So it is in a difficult situation whoever it chooses as its future allies. Perhaps that thought will bring it back to earth and be realistic in its demands in any electoral pact.
The PMSD is back in the opposition and wants to build bridges with its previous partners, I would not trust its know-how considering that all it has tried so far has crumbled. I suppose all it can do is hope that the others will be forgiving and generous come election time; otherwise it might be a road to oblivion. The MMM is apparently trying to woo the disillusioned members of the Social Alliance, it is wasting its time because there are at least 2 ? years of the gravy train left to enjoy even for those who might feel disaffected..
Mauritius is on a down road trend in the battle against corruption as perceived by the Transparency international index. Strange that the rent a quote minister who is always ready to defend his party tooth and nail is keeping radio silence. I wonder why. Perhaps at last he is realizing that he cannot defend the indefensible. To quote our old friend who has a brand new catch phrase ?Li bon ki mo les mo bann compatriotes koné?. (It?s good that I inform my compatriots).
