14. Proper assessment is required for other welfare programmes which are currently being undertaken. A more focused approach is necessary. In this respect, a number of specific assistance programmes designed for the low-income group are currently being implemented with the help of donors, the private sector as well as the local NGOs. A few examples are:

● he Decentralised Cooperation Programme funded by EU to enhance the capacity of Non-State Actors to combat poverty, support micro projects and create employment opportunities for the poor

● AD Programme to finance micro projects and community development

● The Trust Fund for the Social Integration of Vulnerable Groups set up since 1999 to finance small community development programmes, micro projects and also needy students. It has lent support to over 100,000 poor people over the past few years

● The recent Economic Empowerment Programme designed to support critical activities related to training and reskilling, unemployed women, SMEs and social housing.

15. A number of actions are being undertaken. However, a concerted approach is necessary to sensitize the public on these programmes so that those who are really in need may derive maximum benefit and thus help the poor to come out of poverty.
