● Why does the primary school of Chitrakoot have to close?</B>
The ministry of Education has received a report by independent consultants that makes it clear the school has to be pulled down for safety reasons. The infrastructure is said to be fragile and the report even states, ?no structure can be built on this plot of land?.
● What does the ministry propose to do?</B>
The minister of Education, Dharam Gokhool, said he had no other alternative than to close down the school but he proposed to build 12 additional classrooms to accommodate pupils of Chitrakoot at Vallée-des-Prêtres. He even said the new classrooms should be ready by the end of the second term next year.
● Why do inhabitants of the region protest against the minister?s decision?</B>
Jean-Michel de Senneville, the president of the Chitrakoot forces vives, thinks it ?will not be in the interest of the children and people of the region. It is quite far from Chitrakoot?. In fact, inhabitants are afraid that the authorities do not build a new school on the same location if they agree to the ministry?s proposal.
● <B> Some parents think the decision of closing the school is only for economic reasons ? that the authorities want to save money. Is it true?</B>
Minister Gokhool firmly denied it saying he ?could not take any risks because it is a matter of safety? but parents think the ministry is dramatising the situation. They criticise the minister for basing himself on a preliminary report while the final report is expected in 2010. They say the government should wait until then.
